Got some coin books today(question on STACKS)

6 posts in this topic

My local library had a book sale today and I picked up three things for $2.00

1)COIN WORLD ALAMANAC 4 ed 1984

2)GUIDE BOOK OF UNITED STAES COIN(red book)17 ed. 1964

and 3) RARE COIN GUIDE of UNITED STATES GOLD, SILVER, & COPPERS COINS by STACKS.

I am trying to find date of issue. Cover is light brown and they mention that the San Francisco mint closed in 1955. Do any of you know when this was printed? CHRIS

Those are great references to reflect on Chris! Good work! It's hard to know what obscurities your local library has, even removed from the shelves and awaiting the next sale. I picked up a copy of Taxay's Commemorative Coins of the U.S. a little while back and it was marked "Brooklyn Public Library"!

Today was th elast day of the book sale and only found one book 1981 ed of Krause and Mishler's STANDARD CATALOG OF WORLD COINS. I know I am a US collector but it was only a quarter so it was worth it.

Have to tell you a funny story that happened to me there. I was going around the boxes and I saw a book for patterns. I mind got racing and I grabbed for it. The problem was this 80 year old lady tried to grabbed for it also at the same time. It almost got ugly but I told her I got it first. Well when I brought it home I looked at the book and it had to do with sewing and nothing to do with coins. I feel so embarised! CHRIS

Hey Chris,

It could have been worse; She might have pulled out a can of mace and given you a good spray in the face. And to think it would have all been over a book about sewing shocked.gif

Very funny story though! grin.gif

Just revenge! She had probably wanted that book most of her life! Or perhaps she was going to give it to a gradndaughter! frown.gifshocked.gifblush.giflaugh.giftongue.gif
