hi there supertooth good guess! and thanks for responding!!

but with threes they are hard to grade as what appears as wear is actually strike as with the hair over the ears and the bottom hair curls and the hair just below the words liberty

also very importantly

if the coin is fully struck just fresh off the dies the hair curls and again the hair over the ear and just below the word liberty was not meant to have every hair strand separated so what appears as wear is just the way the coin was engraved and designed

many do not understand this as being a rare low mintage series many do not have the opportunity to examine many if any three dollar gold in mintstate and circ

in fact even at regional shows you are lucky to see only a few common dates on the bourse

i will reveal the grade later sunday night my tender ngc board collector friends cloud9.gif

i do not know why i said that but i think i just get misty and all buttery inside when i think of choice three dollar better date coinage laugh.gif

michael------I guess I am a little low this time?? Maybe too conservative this time? When I was just married---not quite 21---I deceided I wanted to collect something rare. That was 37 years ago. I made up my mind it was either 3 dollar gold pieces or CC20"s. I picked the CC20"s. In all the years since, what with the counterfeiting and such, I never regretted that adventure that I took for 10+ years of my life. I ended up owning one of the best collections out there and never even knew it. There were no Winters books then. But now, I collect halves---especially early "original" Walkers. That takes most of my free time now. Oh, and by the way michael, my knock on pictures was not meant at you last time. After looking at hundreds and thousands of Ebay pictures over the last 6 years, all pictures are suspect in my eyes. And, as we all know, having the coin in your hands solves the majority of the problems. Please keep them coming. As you can see, I am not afraid to be first to guess. Heck, I can only be wrong! Michael, though it makes my insides churn to have to say it, I think you owe Victor an apology after your remark about his comment that you'd shown this coin on another thread. No! Cancel that thought! Why should you? Victor has never apologized for any of his miscues. 27_laughing.gif27_laughing.gif27_laughing.gif27_laughing.gif27_laughing.gif27_laughing.gif
