Glockin1958
To me it looks crimped. But it's the same wear and tear as the the rest. Maybe picture isn't greatest
Greenstang
Even if it was crimped, it would still be damage. There is no way it looked like that when the coin was struck.
Just Bob
Someone was testing those scissors that are advertised as being able to cut through a bronze cent, or some type of similar tool. It is just damaged.
kbbpll
There were 12 sided nickels in Canada during this period so maybe it inspired a "make your own error" job.
VKurtB
A secondary and much less often seen method of crimping a coin into an aluminum holder for a "lucky penny" souvenir.
Glockin1958
Thanks for the quick response ! Any other information on what kind of tool would crimp or press it uniformly like that?
Crawtomatic
12 minutes ago, Glockin1958 said: uniformly like that It doesn't appear very uniform in my opinion. Looks to be enough variance to indicate it wasn't intended to be a perfect shaping. But I would use a nail head remover to try getting those square cuts off. If I remember I'll try it this weekend and share pics of the results.
Conder101
Looks like someone was using a side cutter to reduce a cent down to dime size for use in a vending machine.
