1978 D Lincoln with offset mint mart 0

Hello everyone, 

Is this a mint error? worthy of a slab? It the first time I come across it. The mint mark is sideways is this common?

You have to remember that, at that time,  the mint was still punching the mint marks into the working die by hand. The position and orientation can vary a bit from die to die. I don't think that one is off enough for NGC to label it an error.

Not sideways, just rotated a little clockwise.  As Bob mentioned these mintmarks were punched into the dies by hand so a small rotation like this would not be unusual.
