1943 cent

6 posts in this topic

I have been aware of some cents from 1943 that have alot of money value. Im not sure but i wanted to find out more information about this but i cant really find anyhting on it. Supposibly these cents were made of a different material because of lack of supplies during war time or something of that issue. If someone could give any information towards those cents i would greatly appreciate it.

The 1943 cent was issued at Philadelphia, San Francisco and Denver mints and were made of steel, coated with zinc, giving a shiney, silverlike appearance. They were minted in the billions, and are worth about 3C each. A very, very minute amount of 1943 coins were accidentally issued in copper and are very rare. These copper coins can be worth tens of thousands of dollars, depending on condition. Use the 'google' search engine and enter the words "1943 copper cent". This will give you good information on this coin.

What Truth has told you is correct, however, he left out one important detail and that is that there have been millions of regular 1943 steel cents that have been copper coated in order to fool people. I believe there are something like a few dozen authentic copper 1943 cents known.

I have a "copper" 1943 cent. It is clearly copper plated as there is corrosion visible under the plating. Copper plating can be done by anyone. All it takes is some vineagar and some wire and cents or other source of copper.
