U.S. Mint 2005 mint set news

22 posts in this topic

I called the mint and they said they knew nothing about the "new satin finish" on mint set coins. They are supposed to be just like circulating coinage. Anbody else get the feeling we are being duped into the "satin finish" craze? 893whatthe.gifinsane.gif893whatthe.gifinsane.gif893whatthe.gif

I don't know, but the "news" is floating around the coin collector USENET newsgroup as well. I'll ask around and find out exactly where people were getting their information. It wsa CW or another coin magazine, I know.

It isn't unusual for customer service reps to be the last to get the word. I just received the May 23 issue of Coin World with this front page: "Uncirculated Mint set coins to get satin finish this year"

Chris

PS. The set is scheduled for release May 31.

Keep us posted, please. I heard about the new finish, too. If this is true then I'll pick up some extra mint sets; o/w I may not.

EZ, yes they will go on sale May 31. The satin finish has already been tested and used on the UNC John Marshall Commem $. I got mine last week, and they really do look nice. I think I'll order some more.

p.s. Those train images were for Chris Ma-choo-choo-ga to post in his signature line but it will not post the image.

ARCH,

Help us out, bro, why are we having problems here? I've had the same problem trying to post images, lately. Just the following appears:

What gives? Thanks.

My guess is that it is because the picture ends in jpeg instead of jpg. This throws off a lot of forums software.

Greg, I've noticed the difference, too, recently. Why is there a difference? Isn't it the same thing? How can I rectify it in order to post?

I tried to attach a JPG. to e-mail last week (hotmail) but it was a no-go.

JPEG's attach just fine. 893scratchchin-thumb.gifscrewy.gifconfused-smiley-013.gif

edited to add:

I just checked my photo attachment to my sig line and it was a jpg.as you suggested, Greg.

I went to save a photo and it allows me to choose the type of file to save it as; i.e. bitmap, jpeg, etc. The jpeg option is listed as following: jpeg(*.jpg). It seems that they are the same thing but we know that they're not. So what gives?? Any suggestions?

They finally did it. Here is the press release.

Whoa, whoa a second! I hijacked your thread first! You can't just hijack it back and put it on track. How, how dare you!! makepoint.gif

Are there any images of the new finish, yet?

Advice to all: this set is a keeper and will most assuredly escalate in price because of the nickels and the new finish!

Is there a cap on the # of sets which can be ordered? A mintage ceiling? Or is it unlimited mintage like the 2005 proof ASE?

REFUSED TO SUCCUMB TO YOUR RANSOM DEMANDS, MAYBE?

NONE THAT I HAVE SEEN OF THE ACTUAL SET, BUT IT IS THE SAME FINISH USED ON THE 2005 UNC SAE & JOHN MARSHALL COMMEM.

I'M WONDERING HOW THE SATIN FINISH WILL LOOK ON THE LINCOLN. IT SHOULD BE INTERESTING!

IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN MY UNDERSTANDING THAT, UNLIKE "SPECIAL COMMEMORATIVE ISSUES", THERE WILL BE NO LIMIT TO THE NUMBER OF SETS ONE CAN ORDER. OF COURSE, THIS MAY CHANGE BASED UPON DEMAND. THERE WILL UNDOUBTEDLY BE OUT-OF-STOCK PERIODS WHILE SUPPLIES ARE REPLENISHED, BUT I THINK ORDERS WILL CONTINUE TO BE ACCEPTED UNTIL PRODUCTION CEASES FOR 2005.

Chris

PS. The satin finish on the 2005 UNC John Marshall Commem $ really looks nice, particularly on the reverse.
