Well, My guess is the following: Superb Uncirculated specimen with especially mark--free fields. My opinion a 63--64. Cannot go any higher because I do not have coin in hand. Reverse is stunning and appears fully struck. Bob [supertooth]

With just more than 7,000 pieces minted, this superb gem specimen is one of few survivors of the Civil War era. As such, it's superlative grade of MS67 makes it a one-of-a-kind piece that has survived the ravages of its time and the speaks of care that has been afforded few coins from its era. If the rarity is not enough, this piece displays full detail of strike, without the slightest weakness in any of the deivices, all of which are blemish-free. Each and every detail of Liberty's feather plumes is visible, while every strand of hair shows perfect line. The agricultural wreath of the reverse shows immaculate detail without blemish, with each and every kernel of wheat visible, which is a common area of weakness. All devices squarely meet the fields. The remarkable fullness and evenness of the strike increases this coin's rarity by many orders of magnitude. Only a slight asymmetry of denticle detail is noted on the obverse, a factor that may bring this piece back to Earth. A minor spot in the field appears before Liberty's gaze and also on the obverse rim at 6:30, along with some natural toning near the rims of both the obverse and reverse; matters that speak of the coin's originality, but are otherwise noted only for the sake of identification and accuracy. Only rarely is such a superlative piece offered in auction.

Hoot, if you don't write copy for the auction catalogs, you should. I'd bet their sales would increase. Good job! Well, then again, maybe it was just because the coin is so nice. 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

It would depend on the auction company,certain auction houses would lose money if their coins were described properly! 27_laughing.gif

BTW Michael,that is quite a beauty! 66?

this coin has slight rub on the obverse on the hair above the ear and the hair above the eye

the lustre is great on the obverse and

on the reverse it is basically an au-63 893whatthe.gif full cartwheel lustre and with ever so slight rub on the high points and the bow knot one of the highest points on the coin is fully separated slight weak strike on the reverse

i grade the coin cloud9.gifau-63 cloud9.gif

the coin sits in a pcgs au58 holder

and the pro knowitall gave it an ms67? that's hilarious...

Yeah, but with Hoot's description, who wouldn't pay 67 prices? 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

AU58? I'll take ten!

michael------See----This is the problem with pictures! You can doctor them in so many ways that you become suspicious of "ALL" of them even, as in this case, you feel they have not been fooled with. It is as bad as the coins themselves. It is also why I refuse to buy high MS coins unless I have the coin in hand. But I do "love" your grade of au-63. And I do imagine that this coin could easily find itself in an Ms63 holder someday. For that "slight rub" or "friction" might get by quite a few folks on the "RIGHT" day. In any event, I am enjoying guessing with you. Your coins do keep one on his toes as it were. Keep them coming!! Bob [supertooth]

McKinley

Learning the Ropes,

I certainly hope that you have a rappore with Hoot to be bashing him like that. If not, then it is totally inappropriate.

If I don't have the full scoop then I apologize for my interference but o/w, keep these boards civil! makepoint.gif

P.S. Great thread, Michael, you coin-guru you!

look it is not meant to be an exact science and this is only a photo in person the coin looks much better

and the scan is not doctored

it does have 67 eye appeal and except for the rub well a nice choice unc

yes scans are not exactly accurate but this is all we got on here

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

mckinley it is really not adult to badger or twist words or name call but it certainly shows your true colors so everyone on here can see hi.gif

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

mckinley are you retarded slow or off your medications?? or just an [#@$%!!!]????

also please do not post to my threads anymore

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

it was not meant to be a doctored photo the photo is not doctored and yes we need sight seen but the scan is all i got on here

and it is everything is a learning experience now if hoot or anyone else i respect on here i respect hoot greatly in person sight seen hoot would have also called this au63

but yes a photo is a starting point and then a sight seen evaulation and of course even with this photo if a coin seller was offering the coin he would pay pcgs aU58 HOLDER AND WITH THIS INFORMATION YOU WOULD look at the scan and say well only au58 but one hell of a nice slider and then some and with great choice/gem unc qualities and eye appeal

How about this for a corporate structure:

Michael, CPO ...........that's Chief Photographic Officer

Tooth can head up Public Relations............he had to be good at this as a dentist

Hoot will be in charge of Catalog Sales & Advertising................he's so good with words

Hayden will be head of Inventory Control....keep us on the straight and narrow

EZ and Caleb will cover Security...........can you get drugs for a dart gun?

I'll take care of Bookkeeping & Audits because I love numbers

And McKinley can be our first customer!

Chris-----What a sense of humor!! Give you an A+++ I guess any doctor worth his salt has to be able to talk to people. Some, however, do come up short. I, on the other hand, was "always" talking. My wife used to tell me all the time that, if I ever learned to shut up, I could have made some money. Every patient got at least 45 minutes for an appointment. But I always felt that it was more important that my patients felt comfortable. It was more important to me that I made it as good as it could be for them. I did try always to be their friend as well as their dentist. I got away with it because I practiced in this little Eastern Shore town. I found myself being quite a Philosopher as well. So maybe I can be the "father confessor" of this new group too?? Oh, and by the way, I am helping the guy with the coins. Went to the "big" city and spent some hours. He had some decent stuff but "NO" basic coin knowledge. Am working with him on this. He will make quite a chunk of money once it is over. I just love looking at coins. The people seem real appreciative and I have never minded sharing my knowledge. Thank God he had no decent "early" Walkers!! Just never want to not be truthful and "fair". I would just walk away grunting and shaking my head if that ever happens. Bob [supertooth]

Good for you, Bob! It always makes me feel good when a veteran can help others. Does he have any Morgans? takeit.gif27_laughing.gif

I've always enjoyed the Eastern Shore, but I doubt that I will have too many opportunities to get back there. My brothers and sisters are all moving, here, to Southwest Florida.

It would seem logical that "Father Confessor" would be an integral part of your PR work. "I move that we appoint Tooth to administer the FC Committee!" "Second!" All in favor, say Aye." aye! aye! aye! aye! aye! aye! aye!.........hey, wait a minute...........that's seven votes and there are only six officers.................... McKinley!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
