news.giflink kudos to NGC for finally publishing actual turnaround times 893applaud-thumb.gifthumbsup2.gif

midwest, your use of the word actual isn't quite how I interpret the list NGC provides but to answer your question........

Nope. Never. Won't happen. Everytime NGC has incorporated what is best for the numismatic nation, no one (least of all PCGS) has bothered to follow suit. A prime example was when NGC made the distinction of 5FS or 6FS for the Jefferson series. As logical as the move was, none of the other TPGCs will ever follow suit. Same with keeping submitters up to date on turnaround times.

Turnaround times fluctuate most of the time for most tiers and always will. It's nice to have a base time period to start with but in reality, I think NGC should just do away with any guaranteed or estimated turnaround time. Just keep updating the mean average for each tier. This would most affect Earlybird, Modern and Economy as it does now.

Do away with the estimate and continue to update the current. thumbsup2.gif

First NGC does not guarantee it's tiers except maybe a few on the top 893scratchchin-thumb.gif However the estimates I believe are what they want them to be at.Therefore they actually make sure they have something to aim for.Otherwise NGC low tiers may become like ANACS economy 893whatthe.gif

If I am not mistaken doesn't ANACS do the whole steps thing?

In a way, you are correct. ANACS does state on the insert either 5 or 5.5 or 6 steps. SEGS gives a full pillar step count such as 5-5-3-6. In their respective ways, they are all saying basically the same thing but NGC 5FS or 6FS just seems more "nickelish"! My new word for the day! yay.gif

First NGC does not guarantee it's tiers...

You are correct and I didn't mean to imply that they did or do (Earlybird, Modern and Economy).

....the estimates I believe are what they want them to be at.

What they want and what we get is almost always going to be different based on the volume of submissions. That's why I say just keep updating the average turnaround times for these three tiers and forget about trying to be precise to the day for them.

Nice to see that NGC has finally started doing what PCGS has been doing for about 18 months.

Note for the rabid PCGS bashers: You can save the predictable response of "PCGS doesn't meet their estimated times." That's old news, since for several months they've frequently been beating their estimated times.

is this it here? I have known for a while that PCGS had a thing saying how long economy takes. However they didn't put them up for all tiers 893scratchchin-thumb.gif Of course as it probably is with PCGS you can call and get times but it is nice to see then put them out there. Now if you're cynical it's really a move to get more people to use expensive tiers or letting us NGC rejects know who is boss, who runs the board, and who we should keep smooching up too 27_laughing.gif

Actually, from my experience, NGC has been pretty close to hitting their turnaround times up until a couple months ago, so no need for them to update their site back then.

However they didn't put them up for all tiers

They didn't?

FWIW I saw that but the way it looks that seems more like an estimate we want to get it done in this amount of time thing.Maybe if PCGS would come right out like NGC and say here are the turnaround times now here are what we want them to be and they usually are people could figure it out.Do those numbers even change?Every time I see them they seem to stay the same 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

The turnaround times have slowed to a snail pace at both of the services.

I am finished submitting coins for a while for various reasons, so the slower times are not going to bother me that much.

I have an economy in at NGC now that was received on 3/28/05 and it just hit quality control as of the update on Saturday 5/14/05. When PCGS got so long on their times I think lots of folks swithched services. That and the fact that they are all compaining about how tough PCGS has gotten lately. With some of the recent experiences I have had, I don't think they will be all that excited about some of the grades coming out of NGC either.

Both services sure seemed to have tightened up. A bunch!
