Nice collection, Michael! Just out of curiosity, why no 34-S? Are you having a hard time finding one suitable? I'm not too well-versed on Peace $'s, so maybe you can tell me...... Why is the Greysheet Bid/Ask so high for the 34-S?

Michael,

Great looking set of Peace Dollars, and a good job on your photos and descriptions. thumbsup2.gif

I really appreciate the time and effort it took you to put this set together and have this good looking set here for all of us to enjoy. 893applaud-thumb.gif

The 28 and 34-S are very difficult coins to find toned, since for the most part, these are the keys and usually the most readily dipped by dealers/sellers looking for an upgrade. Most Peace $ dont toned well and therefore I imagine that any with color have be dipped to make the coin have a more dazzling look in order to attractive more potential buyers.

I havent found one 34-S that I would call toned enough for inclusion in this set. And I havent found a 28 mint state that has enough color either. I'm still looking though!

Thanks for the kind words! Its been a hard set to put together so far. And I imagine with the price of toned Peace $ jumping up, it might be even harder to upgrade!

Thanks,

Michael

These coins look dirty. Why don't you dip them?

Hahaha! Just kidding. What a fantastic collection you have there. I really am a bit envious. I have been looking at toned coins for quite a few years, thinking they really are the most beautiful things on the earth. They rank up there with flowers and trees for me.

Thank you for sharing your collection.

As for the images, I am sure that the coins look much more colorful in person. I often see people showing coins that they claim are toned, but in the pictures, they just look brown. You did a fairly good job getting the colors to show, perhaps play with the lighting some more to get the colors you describe to be in the pictures you show.

No offense, but what pic are you looking at that doesnt match the description given? And could you please post some of your pics so I can learn how to take better photographs where luster and color come through perfectly, since I'm only doing a fair job at it?

Thanks

Michael

I really liked that 1922-D! A very nice set as well! I never thought of Peace dollars and toning together! Interesting...

At least we know now who has all the toned peace dollars?

Actually, not all of them and not even the nicest ones, unfortunately. ArtR has a reverse end roller thats just stunning. Another PCGS board member has a MS65 34-D that is mesmerizing as well as a few others I covet. I've heard theres a collector out of the midwest that has a beautiful group of toned Peace $. I've personally seen a couple of high end -- MS66/67 toners that another collector owns.

I do have a bunch though. And I have dups as well.

Click here to see the rest of the set.

Thanks

Michael, would you have any objection if BW showed his SBA's here? I'd like to see them, too!

None at all! I'd love to see them. I have 1 toned SBA thats in my Dansco Type set. I rarely if ever see a toned SBA.

Congratulations ! Your Peace $ set definitely has alot of character. Each coin seems to have its own personality. I do agree 100% with your opening statement that a set of toned coins will be very difficult to replicate, now as well as in the future. As someone who also loves toning and originality, I do appreciate the time and effort that must of went into finding and selecting these marvelous coins !!!

Leave the SBA's in there long enough they'll tone. Just like my Kennedys did.

Also, what was that set up again with your photos. I wrote that down when I saw you at Anaheim but, as usual, I lost it. 27_laughing.gif

Nice set. Love the 34-P. grin.gif

Jom -- I'll be at Anaheim this weekend WITH my setup so you'll be able to see it in person.

I'll be doing coin pics for whoever wants their collection photographed on site.

$8 a coin -- obverse/reverse burned on to a CD

$10 a coin if you want hard copy pictures as well.

Thanks

Michael

That is one whale of an accomplishment.

Folks, if you have never tried to find a nicely toned Peace dollar, let alone a date and mintmark set of them, then you have no idea how difficult this set was to put together.

I also agree with FrattLaw that ArtR has some incredible coins and I have held his reverse toned Peace dollar in my hand to examine it and it has some of the best flash and luster I have ever seen on a toned dollar!

I see pictures there... anybody else not seeing them?

Do you have to be a member of TCCS to navigate? All I get is little boxes with an "X" in them. Nothing happens when I click on them.

TomB & Hoot -- thanks so much. Getting congrats from the two of you definitely means a lot! It was/is a major PITA to find these coins. But, its the hunt that makes it fun. I guess thats why I like to find odd ball coins with nice toning. I'm trying to accomplish the same now with 35-58 Lincolns, 38-64 Jeffs and MS & PF Ikes! Though the toned Peace $ will always be my 1st love. Now if I can just get ArtR to send that endroller!

And as for Bruce -- get pics of those SBAs up! I want to see them already! Those are cool! Another coin, you almost never see with nice toning!

It sounds like you took offense. I am sorry, my comments were not meant to disparage you or your photography technique. I was just saying that the descriptions don't match the pictures. I can't pick out just one, they are all less colorful than what you describe. That is the limitation of photograpy, I believe. The human eye can see more colors when one moves the coin around and the light plays off the coin. In a photo, the image is static and one only gets the light play from one angle.

I am sorry, I don't have any toned coins to take pictures of to demostrate better lighting.

It wasn't a criticism, just a statement of fact that the descriptions were much better than the images showed.

Your collection is superb and I could only hope to own some coins as beautiful as you have. hail.gif
