12 posts in this topic

That is right tommorrow I am going to ruin a 1963 proof set!I broke it up and none of the coins are great so dont tell me top not to do it.

Anyway thanks to a member who shall remain nameless although he is "slightly evil" 27_laughing.gif

He won' tell me any of the actualy ways to AT a coin only vague you use chemicals stuff.I guess he thinks it is dangerous for a 13 year old to know how to AT coinssmirk.gifSo anyway if any of you people will actually post or PM me about how to do this that would be nice. What ever you do don't toy with me and tell me about bleach or the potato thing.

Now where did I put that large jug of Acetone and ammonia 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

OK, I'll tell you. You can use bleach and a potato.

Hopefully no where near each other unless you want to die.

Blow torch......might be a little much for a 13 year old. I know sulfer is a main ingrediant in the ATing process...but frankly I don't know how to AT coins I just have some SAE's in envelopes on the window sill seeing if I can get any color out of them???

I thought about the blowtorch one when I first decided to AT the set but then thought that is a little bit overkill.

Now one Idea I have is that I have some kraft paper. Now I guess that storage for a long time in these can cause toning. Now if I wrap one of the silvers in the paper put in on a baking sheet and put it in an oven for a few hours that could work. However I wonder if that might cause the paper to catch fire 893scratchchin-thumb.gifpopcorn.gif

I tried a ziplock with a pack of matches (for the sulfur) in the window sill once. While the coin did tone after a while I forgot it was there and it got too dark.
