15 posts in this topic

would you consider getting a nice xf/au, au/unc., choice unc., proof strike for type 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

or maybe a different mintmark set of threes 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

or a coin of each decade produced 893scratchchin-thumb.gif 1850's 60's 70's 80's

or maybe a civil war set 1861-65 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

possibly one of the under 1000 minted sexy dates of the 1880's 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

or maybe the one year type 1854 coin with the small dollars lettering 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

or possibly one of the three really rare dates that have around 100-200 known of each date 1858? 1864? 1865? 1877?

or maybe you will do a complete set 893scratchchin-thumb.gif893applaud-thumb.gif893applaud-thumb.gif

Michael,

I didnt know diddly about $3 gold when I saw this coin. And I still dont.

That was one of my favorites though. Not the highest of grades, but it had eye appeal and the denomination was always intriguing to me.

Michael, I plan on possible buy a $3 gold this weekend at my local coin show (if I can find a nice one). Any ideas on date and or grade that I won't get too gouged? (I plan on spending about $1000).

With gold rising right now, do you think it would be better for me to concentrate on a couple of silver coins instead and let the market cool down a little? (I know, silver is rising too.) Thanks

i would gwt as nice condition as i could with great eye appeal 1854 1874 1878 common dates i know but really not that common and certianly not common at all with grea5 eye appeal and xf that is not stripped and dipped

i would buy the three dollar if you can find one but in my opinion it will be nothing short of a mircale to find one at the show you are going to

but you never know if you do not look then you qwill never find

keep us informed on here how you do

i've seen a couple come and go.. $1000 should be just fine for a common date, slightly circulated $3 gold.. probably more than enough. do a little homework first though.

$3's are more of a numismatic thing, which happen to be made of gold.. the spot prices is the last thing to consider i'd say. just buy what ya like..
