in my opinion i see this particiular coin worth RETAIL

$600-$1100 depending what it looks like in person

sight seen

most probably it is closer to 600.00 rather than 1100.00

there is a pic attached to the message, im no expert grader, not even a novice, its looks good to me, has a goldish look to it, graded by ntc. also wondering if it would be worth having it crossover graded by either ngc or pcgs

i would have someone look at it in person whoyou trust and who knows proof twenty centers to see what the coin might grade at pcgs/ngc

Is this a joke thread? 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

If not, I apologize, but the reason I ask is that a professed newbie buys a PF62 twenty cent piece in an NTC holder off ebay and submits a fuzzy picture while asking for a value?!?!?! foreheadslap.gif

In my opinion, most PF62 coinage is graded that way because it is hairlined to death. Also, NTC does not have an enviable reputation in the hobby/industry. Therefore, I would suspect that the coin might be a problem coin that would be precluded from being slabbed by NGC or PCGS. As this post currently stands, I would expect this coin to be less than sight-unseen Bluesheet money and would guesstimate the value at $600 or less.

i apologize if this seems like a joke, it is not. i guess im an ametuer collector, have been for a few years, nothing big, but this is the first coin of any real value that i have purchased and im just wondering if i overpaid (prob did) and if it would be to my advantage as an investment to have it graded by a more respected and better known grading company. all opinions and suggestions are appreiciated.

To realize maximum value out of this purchase, it'd likely be in your interest to submit this coin to NGC or PCGS as a crossover with the stated grade of "CROSS AT ANY GRADE". That means if the coin will be slabbed by them, it will be regardless of the grade.

If they refuse to cross it with those instructions, it means the coin is a problem coin as TomB mentioned. In that case, you can submit it to NCS or ANACS. At NCS it's possible they can remove the problem and get it slabbed by NGC. It depends on the problem. At ANACS they will net grade it, i.e. Proof, Cleaned, Net PF55.

I apologize again if my post seemed to be aimed at you personally, it wasn't, it was just that your post contained all of the buzzwords for a bad purchase. Your coin might actually be nice, but given the circumstances I would follow Greg's suggestion and have it graded by NGC or PCGS as a grade at any grade crossover. This will not only improve the coin's potential value but will likely improve the liquidity. I wish you good luck and you should hang around here.

Contribute this coin to the church and it could be worth as much as $100 on your itemized taxes. tongue.gif

1875 is a relatively "common" year for the coin. I find it a little odd that even NTC would say this is a proof. If it is a proof, it might be a very cool coin to have, but I would agree to crack it out and submit to PCGS, NGC, ICG, or ANACS. If it's a problem coin, only ANACS will slab it, but at least it will be properly attributed. Let us know what you do.

I would send it to NCS first! If the coin is a problem coin then you wont be out the grading fees! Also NCS might be able to "fix" the problem. Them they would send it over to NGC. Anytime I have a question coin I send it to NCS saves bodybags!!!
