Cheapskates! SEATED coins at silver MELT value?

11 posts in this topic

27_laughing.gif Where in the heck did I do wrong with this eBay listing ? It's for an 1877-S quarter which, admittedly, was in low grade, but c'mon.... after eBay and shipping fees, I'll net about a dollar for this coin, which is about silver melt!

Check out the bidding history - a bunch of cheapskate penny pinching no-gooders!

PS. You're still doing the honest and honorable thing in your listings and I respect you for that. I just didn't know that you were supporting charitable causes for the needy. takeit.gif27_laughing.gif

Again to make money on ebay you have to doi the following.

First charge 6.99 for shipping then send coin in #10 envelope

Call coins moster toning even though there is only a speck of toning

For the love of god man shake the camera when taking pictures Christo_pull_hair.giffrustrated.gif!!!!!!

Ebayers love fuzzy photos where all you can tell is you are buying something round

say all items are from estate sells and you know nothing about coins

if selling wheat cents call them unserached even if only selling one

Hype your coins and say all your certified coins are undergraded

Finally use L@@K in title

I agree, I think you got ripped! eBay can really suck for some honest sellers. I sold several 3CN on there some time ago and they ended up netting me below bid for all of them. That sucked! That was the last time I tried selling any coins on eBay. I'm a bit gunshy now.

Sorry your listing didn`t go well ! I would like to comment about the shipping fees post. I try to charge a very relative flat rate for those coins that I list. Sometimes though I have been known to err. One of my recent sales for instance, I had over charged for the shipping, purely an honest mistake. I had listed several items and had used the sell a similiar item option in order to make listing them easier. But in my haste I had over-looked the shipping cost. I had inadvertently used the same shipping as a much higher item. I instructed the buyer to only pay half of the listed shipping cost. Good PR in my opinion. But, my point is that even a $15 to $20 shipping fee isn`t unreasonable if it reflects the cost of insurance for a high dollar item. Most everyone here surely realizes that postal insurance doesn`t come cheap.

Honest sellers on eBay are few and far between! I do usually charge 50c to a $1 more on shipping ,depending on the cost of the item etc, to cover the cost of the packing etc.

What I hate is pay $5.00 for shipping and get the coin in an envelope with a 37c or 60c stamp on it!

James I would drop the 1c start on your items. All that does is pull the cheapos to begin with! Start the low valued items closer to what you want for the item!

Heck, I have mostly quit the auction part altogether. I have been using Buy-it-now with the Make-an-offer feature. I do just as well as I did before and I don't loose as much.

James, don't change the way you are doing things! Because you list coins starting at 1 cent and have reasonable postage, I have added you to my favorite sellers list. Everybody wants a bargain sometime. If you set your beginning price too high it discourages bidding and the fever of people bidding against each other. I believe your dilemma with auction is this coin's demand is weak, particularly for G and VG.

You also complained about the high ebay fees eating into your cost. I agree, everyone should be checking out Yahoo Auctions where the cost is much much less.
