Worth of a 1817 Gold Sovereign PF66 Cameo NGC

5 posts in this topic

I understand that only six to eight of the 1817 Proof Gold Sovereign exist.

I have a 1817 British Proof Gold Sovereign in PF66 Cameo NGC. Does anyone know what it is worth?

Thanks in advance.

Krause lists the value of the coin at $8000 in Proof. Nice high grade, but cameo is the norm. This should go to the ANA auction in SF. You might get all the money for that coin.

TruthTeller,

That is a great suggestion and we have started discussions with them several weeks ago. There are more coins than this one, but this is one of the more unique coins. There is also a (I am only working on my memory now and do not have the list in front of me) 1509 Gold sovereign, 1826 Gold Sovereign MS67, an 1893 Krugerrand with "99" stamped in and others.

That looks like a cool deal of rare gold. The market is VERY hot for these type of coins. You should get very good terms such as 102% of hammer for a total lot consignment of $50,000 or more. You must place reasonable reserves to get these commision sales terms. If the reserve is too high, the auction house will require stiff buyback terms, such as 7% of the nonsale price. It's all negotiable.

893scratchchin-thumb.gif For a few big dollar coins that are fairly rare, I bet he can get 5% more than that.
