Error Bison Nickels

11 posts in this topic

I found 8 bison nickels in a fresh bag of 1000 nickels which each have an extra clod of dirt on the mound, makes the mound look like it has a stinger. Would these be classified as error coins or what? Also, found some kind of clad error on one. Would it be wise to have these graded and slabbed? thx, newbie doug

Not sure what I should be looking at in the picture. My first hunch is that most of the common errors on these buffalo's are not going to be worth the grading fees as so many folks are doing just what you did....searching bags.

Depending on what you find...I know the speared Bison's seem to still be selling for a premium...but I think your best bet with the rest is to try to sell them as raw errors on Ebay. Even if you only get a couple bucks a piece for them........it's more than the 5 cent face value thumbsup2.gif

I still stand by my original response that it isn't worth submitting...but.......it's totally up to you...good luck either way!!! flowerred.gif

KC has given you good advice. Whether it is a filled die chip or a die crack (still can't tell from the pic), it would only be considered a minor error that wouldn't be worth the cost of grading. Sell it on eBay, but take better pictures of it, FIRST!

Looks like a small die chip off the east tip of the mound that the bison is standing on. With the way that people are reacting to novelites with these new nickels, who know how this may be viewed by the public at large. Personally, I would not pay 1 cent extra for a speared bison or any other.

I think I'll pull out my CMR "Good Medicine" again and see if there's an appropriate passage for Hoot.

i would get it slabbed as the diccovery coin stinger buffalo

look at the speared buffalo that is being slabbed by pcgs and being sold on ebay for hundreds of dollars

a minor die gouge that is hardly visible and was extensively marketing and promoted to pcgs and coin world

hense a few dollar investment turned into thousands of dollars in windfall

so i would say i would definately promote and market these in demand buff nicks with the bee stinger being dropped on the mound not being able to penetrate the buffalos tough hide

as thry are currently in rabid demand and even non stinger buffaloes are bringing 7 dollarS A ROLL for the d mintmarked coins and they are still being minted
