8 posts in this topic

Hello All,

confused.gifNot much of a coin guru, and I had a question in regards to a coin I found. Basically, it is a 1/10oz $5 fine gold coin w/ walking liberty on the front. On the back, there are 2 eagles and it reads: E PLURIBUS UNUM. I do not see a date anywhere on the coin. confused-smiley-013.gif

You have a 1/10 ounce American Eagle gold coin worth about $45 in mint condition. If damaged or cleaned, then it's worth $41.

Unless it's a proof coin, with mirror surfaces and in a plush blue box, the coin is minted strictly for gold value. In 1986 gold was a bit lower in price, so $75 was too much money. However, if it is the proof version, with box and certificate, it is worth about $60.

Yep, the price is just a bit above bullion price. The date is in roman numerals for the first couple of years they did the gold eagle coins. It's a call back to the 1907 $20 coin which bore the design and used roman numerals for 1907.
