I just bought my most expensive coin to date

4 posts in this topic

The most expensive coin I had bought up to this purchase was $150 but I thought this one looked too nice to pass up. I did not buy it from the auction but waited until the auction was closed and sent the seller an offer. He did not accept the offer but said that he would sell it for $180 including shipping so I went ahead and took him up on the offer. I think it will be a very nice coin and is a lot cheaper then buying an UNC. So what do you think of it? laugh.gif

My opinion is that the seller used a lot of light to get those images to look like that. Also, since you bought this after the auction closed, did you discuss a possible return privilege or are you stuck with it in the case that you don't like it? 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

If Krauss is at all reliable as a guide here, you may have done fairly well. Krauss lists the value at $180 for an XF coin. 305,000 mintage, wich is the highest of the series.

Let us know how it looks in-hand and maybe shoot some better photos.

On stuff like this I've found that coins in AU58 holders usually bring about Krause XF catalog in a true auction so the price seems about right. I hope it looks good in hand!
