Metal Detectors

I went with the Bounty Hunter Sharpshooter II. It has the same features as the more expensive ones except for a depth reading. But then then I guess it doesn't really need that since it won't detect anything below six inches. frustrated.gif

This is probably the best deal you'll find on one.

I concur. My wife had a Bounty Hunter Quick Draw (?) or something like that, not sure, and she skunked me on several ocassions with my detector that cost 3 times as much.

This has been something I've wanted since I was a kid. thumbsup2.gif

Where do you guys look for things? What can you find?

When I was taking this photo last month, I was thinking how cool it would be to come back in spring with a metal detector and sweep around the area. 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

Best places are anywhere old, like old parks. Ripped-out sidewalks are almost guaranteed to produce something nice. For the daring, there are the demolition sites, where old bldgs have been torn down exposing soil that hasn't seen light in decades. I say daring because one usually has to climb a cyclone construction fence and risk getting tossed out by a construction guy or a cop. I go back again and again to an old turn of the century park and always find at least a wheat cent. Good days produce Barber coins, IH cents, etc.

Anywhere along the Florida coast.......Spanish gold & silver.......tourists lose a lot of change and jewelry.......after Hurricane Frances, a guy found thousands of Spanish silver coins that had been hidden for a couple centuries by a 60' sand dune.

I was hoping someone would be wise enough to mention schools, and the older the better! Back in the 70's, I was the first to hit a grassed 3 acre grade school playground and managed to cover the entire area within a month on weekends. Lots of great finds! Kids have money too and are more prone to lose it then an adult. 27_laughing.gif Chris, that old house looks like a perfect place to detect! Wish I could join you but I can't seem to pull myself away from a Sunday round of golf to do it even in my own back yard (even if I had a detector)!

See my post in the other MD thread for links to 3 different detector companys that are considered to be the best for the money.
