Kansas City ANA ?

13 posts in this topic

Is anyone going? I'm considering it, but it's a 4 1/2 hour drive across the state for me. Can anyone discuss what I'd expect to see there if I go?

If you can believe it, I've never been to an ANA show before...

James, you've never been to ana show? I thought you went to shows all of the time? 27_laughing.gif

Take the drive, it will be beneficial. The Spring ANA is usually a quality show with about 100 tables of national dealers, sprinkled with local and mom and pop dealers. Not as hectic or large as the Summer ANA, about 1/3 to 1/2 the size. Some better foreign dealers also show up.

I will be going. It will be my first ANA show. I live in the KC area and have been to many small shows.

I am hoping to see as many coins as possible and increase my knowledge. I am still new to the hobby and hope that I can start making better more educated coin purchases. This website has helped. Hopefully the coin show will help more.

If you have any questions about the area, just ask. I have lived in the KC area all of my life.

I have been watching this board for a long time and finally have posted.

When the CSNS show was held there in 1996, My family and I made the trip. I had plans spending two days at the show before heading to Arkansas to see my parents. The Brother(something) was also having a get together is KC that weekend and we couldn't find a hotel anywhere. I drove 75 miles south, stopping at a number of hotels along the way and they were all booked! The last place we stopped at was a dingy looking little mexican hotel and just as soon as I entered the door, someone inside looked at me and motioned with his hands and said, "We booked! So I went back to the car and told the kids, "Say goodbye to KC, I think we've seen the last of it".

There's nothing like enjoying an unplanned 28 straight hour day before reaching your final destination!

Chris, honestly, I've been too "scared" to go to an ANA show. It took me years to finally feel like I have a grasp on grading coins, and in addition, I was pretty shy around major coin dealers for the longest time. Pretty stupid, huh?

Carl Spangler, first of all, WELCOME to the NGC boards! Hope to see a fellow Missourian post a lot more around here!

I have decided that I will drive to KC on Friday and attend all day Saturday. It's a 4.5 hour drive for me (from St. Louis), and I can't afford more hotel stays than one night. I'll probably bring a few things to sell, but mostly, my goal will be to watch, listen and learn.

Hope to see you all there!

Stupid?..........No way!

It wasn't that long ago that I came on board. Man, I was scared to death! Everyone here knows so much more about the hobby than me. I "lurked around" for what seemed like an eternity...............about 5 minutes..........before I finally took the plunge. And, it only took me a short while before I "stuck my foot in my mouth"! Once that was behind me, it didn't matter because everyone thought I was crazy, anyway.

If you've been reluctant to attend an ANA show because you are afraid that you might make yourself look foolish or make a mistake........ Forget it! ......Just remember these tidbits....

The only "perfect" people in this world are those who have never tried to do anything.

If you can laugh at yourself, you'll always have the last laugh.

If you find that you have "stuck your foot in your mouth", just make sure you have plenty of mustard and relish.

Have a good time at the show.

Chris

Hey, Carl, welcome to the boards!!!

James, I just received the April 4 Coin World. I don't know if you are aware, but two of the five 1913 Liberty Head nickels will be on display in KC as well as a sheet of $100,000 gold certificates. Would you do me a favor and pick up a couple of each for me?

Hey, thanks for the welcome guys.

I plan on going to more shows in the area. I went to one of the shows in your area last year James. It was October or November at a hotel near the St. Louis airport. It was advertised as a national show. St. Louis seems to have several large shows. I seem to see them advertised in the Coin World calender. I will try to go to more of them in St. Louis since it is just under four hours for me and I can make it there and back on the same day. They are also larger than the one day shows that are typically held here in the KC area.

My son wanted me to type his name with a smiley face.

I am one of those that is kinda nervous around the dealers. But once I get the nerve up to start asking questions I have a hard time stopping.

Now we've got Hayden T. & Hayden S..................Carl, you'll just have to be a little specific.............. "Geez, what a day I had! Hayden refused to do his chores, so I had to take him out to the woodshed." I don't think Mr. T would like that either. 27_laughing.gif27_laughing.gif

It's not often I come across someone with the name of Hayden,I guess it's because there aren't that many great guys like me. angel.gif

Of course not wanting to put Chris down but there's just to many of his type around grin.gif

Hopefully you can get your son interested in coins(if he's smart he'll go for seated coins)

-Hayden

BTW I'd like to see Carl try to take me to Mr.T to the woodshed sumo.gif

I like him having an uncommon name. My wife picked it out and we both liked it. My oldest son has an uncommon name also, Ivan. He was named after my father but we use his middle name, Ryan.

They are only 4 and 5 years old, but I have started showing them my coins. They seem to be a little interested and ask me questions about them ocassionally. I will get them some state quarter maps soon and help them fill them. I hope to get them asking me every day if I have any new state quarters and see if they will fill any of their holes. From there I can have them start looking at the condition of the quarters and see if the new ones look any better than the ones they already have. Get them started grading early.
