I just called my travel agency and they say that I will be able to save roughly $800 if I chose to fly to Long Beach instead of San Frasnsisco. Is is worth spending extra $800 to attend ANA show?? I've attended ANA show in 2002 and Long Beach show in 2003....I think both show was great....if I weren't suffering from jet lag wink.gif

Long Beach is approximately 450 miles from San Fransciso. Why not rent a car and drive? Hwy 101 is very scenic and beautiful. You can stop by on the way and I'll treat you to dinner.

Thank you very much for kind words, Mr. Truth.

But I'm not confident enough to drive alone in a foreign country especially when I'm suffering from jet lag. I once have driven a car in Hawaii but I imagine traffic is heavier in West coast and I was with my family then(yes, they can speak much better English than I smile.gif) so I didn't have much worry. I rather fly directly either to LAX or San Fransisco to attend either show. And it would be a GREAT pleasure if I could meet you at a show.

Whitch show do you think is better? I mean, is it worth spending extra $800 to attend ANA show?

$800 is a great deal of money. At least to me. The last ANA show I attended was last year in Pittsburgh. The entire trip, including hotel, car and air fare was under $650 for five days. I enjoyed myself thoroughly. The summer ANA has many world mints and displays along with US mint and mint products. The exhibits were very nice and I viewed most of them. The amount of coins to chose from is very, very large. The show will also have a large foreign section with major dealers from throughout the world. In addition, the auction is alway tremendous. The best thing about attending this show is that there probably won't be any ANA summer conventions on the west coast for about another 4 years. If $800 is not a lot of money, I recommend it.

Mr.Truth

$800 IS a lot of money to me and that's why I can't make a decision yet.

After reading your opinion, I'm leaning toword ANA show, but I'm a stingy guy and might end up attending Long Beach show again wink.gif

Seems like you are good at finding a reasonable priced hotel. I had to spend $1000 just for hotel at each show frown.gif

Are you comfortable taking a train or a bus? If you take the bus from Los Angeles to San Francisco, it was cost you about $90 each way and you could sleep. If you take the train, it will cost about $150 each way and is very scenic trip. Each trip is about 15 hours. ANA is a great experience.

$1,000 for a hotel! How many nights are you staying? What type of hotel? That seems very high unless you are staying 7 nights.

Let me know which nights, what type of hotel (3 Star, 5 Star, etc), and how close you have to be to the show and I'll quote some prices here. I still haven't booked my trip to the ANA yet, but I don't plan on spending $1,000 for a hotel.

Since I know the bay area fairly well, I will be staying at an nice, quality hotel in Fremont, CA and taking BART(train) into SF. BART will be $5, much less than parking, and the BART station is less than three blocks from Moscone Center. I really recommend this. The only drawback is if your carrying $10K in coins, it's not ideal.

Thanks for many suggestions. I wish I could enjoy the trip in train, but I guess 15hours train ride after 12hours flight must be tough....my butt will ache for sure smile.gif

I'm pretty sure I will suffer from jet lag again and will get very sleepy shortly after the lunch time. I want to stay in a hotel where I can go back easily from the show to take a nap(and watch disney channel, wink.gif)

I cheacked the ANA site and the hotels they recommend cost roughly $200/day. I made a reservation at Hilton. I'm not sure how many stars they have, but cost roughly $200/day. Greg, please let me know if you happen to find a cheap hotel nearby the show.

Per an Orbitz search, RT flights from LAX (Los Angles) to SFO are $168 for the last week of July - as near as I can remember, the fly about hourly -so you shpuldn't have a big problem getting to SFO from LA - flight takes about 1 1/2 hours - Go to the ANA - MUCH better than LB. JMHO

Thanks for the info. But if the one way ticket from LAX to SFO is $168, it makes the round trip $336. If the difference is $464, I would rather fly directly to San Fransisco. To tell the truth, I just bought a ticket to SFO yesterday....I'll be there in July smile.gif

I checked the ANA site and they say that the show will be held from 7/27 to 7/31, but does anyone know is 7/27 open to the public?

I just checked through Travelocity and the Holiday Inn, 50 Eighth St, SF is 1.3 miles from the Moscone Center - $127.00 per night.

Chris

PS. It's higher through Holiday Inn website.

The time has come to start to book my reservations.

I assume parking isn't free at the convention center (is it?), so I'd like a place that is close enough by that I can walk to. Looks like all the places close by are priced strong. Right now I'm looking at the Argent or Hotel Milano. Anyone have any other suggestions or opinions on these hotels? They seem close by.

Unless parking at the convention center is plentiful and reasonably priced, I want a place with a close walking distance.

I've made my reservation at both Hilton and Milano, but I think I'm going to cancel Hilton. As far as I checked, Milano is the nearest hotel? I'm very lazy, so nearer the better.

Some of us folks are forming a carpool. We are tentatively staying at a nice Fremont hotel under $55 a night and commuting into SF. Parking at the Moscone center is $22, or a very nearby lot at $21 a day(over 8 hours). So far I got a buddy of mine, JOM, TJ. Another buddy wants to come, but is unsure. I tentively am driving everyone, and split the parking fees The hotel nearby is a best western, or an extended day hotel. There are others in the similar price range. PM me if you want more info.

From the awful map, it looks like the Argent and Hotel Milano are one block away from the convention center, but they are on opposite sides of it. No idea how close they are to the part of it where the coin show is being held.

Did you make reservations directly or thru travel agent / online travel service? The best rates I found for the Argent are $194/night and for Hotel Milano $150/night. I'm leaning toward the Argent since it looks nicer.

Fremont? Where exactly is that? Since semi-wife is likely coming the hotel would have to be close enough to the "action" of SF to keep her busy.

Fremont is just north of San Jose. There's nothing there. Why not stay on the penisula, like Palo Alto. That area has enough to keep semi-wife happy (Stanford Shopping Center, etc.) hotels are probably alot less, and you can take a train right to Moscone. OR, rent a car with the money your saving on hotels. OR ask a good friend to loan you a car because this will undoubtedly net him a nice SF meal or French coin... 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

Anyone know how close BART gets to the center and if I can catch it from Vallejo? Whats the farthest east point of departure of BART if I'm heading in on I80? I have a friend in Woodland that I'll likely stay with. I know it sounds goofy, but If BART departs from Vallejo, I'd only be an hour from it.

What days are most of you planning on going?

BART goes very close to Moscone (couple blocks) but no BART from Vallejo. Perhaps a ferry from Vallejo to SF?

Woodland is 40 miles east of Vallejo, and the best bet is taking Bart from Concord/Walnut Creek, just across the Cartinez Strait from Vallejo.

I made a direct reservation to Milano using their homepage. What I like about that hotel is that they have room safe attached to most of the rooms. How about Argent? Do you have a link to Argent hotel?
