This coin has very strong luster and really sparkles as you rotate it, and the colors are strong and vivid.....

I feel its NT and I'm submitting it, coins like this can be a gamble, however I paid $20 for it and I'm willing to eat a submission fee should it get bagg'd....

NT......I am 99% sure.......I have a few around that date that have vivid toning and the toning pattern and colors do not raise any warning flags for me.

Awesome coins...you got a real steal.....now how do you think it will grade out? Looks like a 66+ to me....which means it could be a 66 or 67....don't see any real significant marks on it?

I only collect Washington quarters for an album, and am pretty casual about it. However, in that pursuit, I've encountered more superbly toned 1953 quarters than any other date.

I haven't a single doubt that yours is NT, Lucy. It's gorgeous and looks like it will grade quite highly. cloud9.gif (Unless you want to flip it to me now for double your money wink.gif)

That looks like a beutiful coin. I'm curious, which of the images shows the paper color as more true? I ask because the color of the coin changes slightly with the color of the paper. This piece appears to have good luster with toning that is not incredibly thick I have a feeling that if I saw this piece raw that I would think NT and would have without doubt bought the coin. One interesting thing, though, is that there is a particular color and color change represented on this coin that occurs from certain AT methods and I have seen this on PCGS slabbed coins that were AT. I believe it should slab.

Images 1,2 and 4 show the papers color, which is very very close to the paper color in person.

I'm not sure why the other images the background paper has a tint in it,

The colors of the coin look much nicer then all of these images...

It looks good to me but there appears to be some marks on the portrait between the eye and ear and a long one below the lower jaw. I'd say MS65* with the toning.

The (2) marks on the jaw/neck might deduct 2 points. Also couple marks on right leg. Pretty coin!! I think Leo has it called.

I'd be happy to own that coin - raw or slabbed - I'd even post it inthe "Rainbow Room" on the TCCS boards wink.gif

NT IMHO - and if perchance the TPGS wizards have a different opinion, I'd keep it anyway.

Lucy,

You said it had lot's of luster,if no distracting mark's,pretty sure a 66..if sending it to NGC,they like lot's of luster.The toning look's original to me..then a possible 67.

A real nice looking coin.

BTW,to receive the star grade,do you have to put it under a certain submission tier,or do they grade it accordingly.
