Never clean a silver round?

2 posts in this topic

I have a silver one ounce "trade unit" round (obverse looks like a Morgan dollar) that has a black tarnished reverse from years of storage in a snaplock case with a foam backing. Is it realistic to even think about cleaning this piece? Or is this best left alone, as would be the case with more valuable old coins?

Since it is a silver round and its value is based only on the silver content, you can clean it with the proper tools. I would not scrub it or harm it in any way, but if a quick dip would remove the tarnish - go for it.
