I like them, but since I currently don't have any....I don't think I would want to jump into putting together a set.

Nothing like a nice original attractive album toned coin in my opinion!!! thumbsup2.gif

A beautiful dime Michael. Thank you for sharing the pic's. smile.gif

If anyone DOESN'T like the blue album toned "look", I suggest they take a peak at the latest Stacks auction as the images there are nothing short of spectacular, and it's amazing at how the album toning exhibited on most of the coins repeats itself in basically the same pattern on virtually all the coins from the collection.

It will blow you away if you haven't taken a peak.

Blue?

Alright, don't hate me for this yeahok.gif, but I simply can't help it.

And Michael - a superb piece. I'm not so sure that a type collection could be done of those! 893whatthe.gif "Type" would be the closest I'd ever come to collecting seated material.

Hoot, extremely interesting post to me -because I own a virtual twin to that coin! Actually, I've found that a lot of the copper coins from India and that area have toned to a blue color over the years. I wonder if it's related to India's climate or something....?

I'll have to look for that coin. It's buried somewhere in my "non-USA" stuff.....

I'd make a type set out of your collection any day, Michael! Heck, I'd even pick up the coins without charge! thumbsup2.gifdevil.gif

This isn't exactly a proof Seated piece, but it would certainly confuse many people into thinking it were one. The reason these late-date Seated halves are so often encountered with strongly prooflike surfaces is because of the miniscule mintages of this era, which virtually assured that every piece minted was from a fresh or nearly fresh die pair. As an example, this 1879 Seated half dollar is a business strike coin, yet there were only 5,900 business strike half dollars minted that year. Lastly, this is not a key date coin; we could do an entire thread on what constitutes a key date coin, and this date would not make the cut.

Hey Hoot, I also have a near twin to your coin, sans the hole, of course. wink.gif Mine is a 1921 five centavos from Portugal, it's about the size of a twenty cent piece and is quite pretty. thumbsup2.gif

If it's a washer, it's no good. There's a crack in it! No, I think it's the center of a locket and Hoot is looking for a photo of Caleb's nose to put into it.

Pretty!!!
