Hey folks! Watch the bids disappear in the following auction!

16 posts in this topic

This seller is really smart! He's using the same picture of steps for several of the other auctions! If anyone is wondering what's up with the steps, it's a picture I developed over a couple of months ago for my ebay auctions.

Should I contact the seller? Or the bidders? 27_laughing.gif

Buyers beware alert! This seller is ripping off collectors! I'm asking everyone here to get involved and help me contact all these buyers in his past auctions to get them to NEG this guy or post an appropriate response here that you would believe would convince some of these weenies to NEG this guy!

I have already received a few responses that state they are not receiveing coins that this seller trumps up in his auctions. One buyer says he's afraid the seller will retaliate with a neg if he negs him. Another buyer wanted to return his coins and the seller has not replied to his emails.

I also have hopes that some of you could buy from this guy and neg him outright to get him off ebay! This seller describes most of his coins MS68 and a few with full steps and he's using my picture of steps to sell his coins!.

I have already filed an Image and Text Theft fraud report with ebay and have contacted several bidders to retract their bids. I have also given them info on how they can cancel a bid but guess what? No-one appears to have done so although a couple of buyers have thanked me for the heads up! screwy.gif

Thanks for all your help! 27_laughing.gif

Leo, I saw those FS Jefferson auctions last week and sent him an email about using a stock pic of steps for all of the ones he says are FS. Never received an answer and really didn't expect to but let him know that anyone (well, most Jeff collectors) would see the step picture and realize it wasn't the one for the coin being sold and would hurt his sales.

There are a lot of experienced buyers (based on their feedback count) that are bidding on his coins. I think most are of the opinion that for less then $20, they don't have much to lose if the coin isn't as advertised, plus he does have a return policy.

Didn't realize it was your step coin he was using tho! 893naughty-thumb.gif893naughty-thumb.gif893naughty-thumb.gif893naughty-thumb.gif

Thanks David, Charlie

I really don't mind anyone using my pictures but it would be nice that they ask. But I don't like the idea that this seller may be misrepresenting the coins he's selling by using the picture next to a coin he says has full steps. When the picture of the steps are not the steps to his coin. I have yet to let this guy know the picture is mine. I'm pondering a couple of ideas to wake this guy up! What will tommorow hold for this guy? insane.gif

He wrote back and did not definately say that they were his steps pictures. What he did say was that he stands behind his merchandise. Take it for what it is worth. Maybe he won't do it again.

So far I have received 3 replies from the limited ten members ebay allowed me to contact yesterday. All 3 showed doubt about this seller. One response said the coins he received were overgraded and has sent several emails to return coins but has been ignored by seller. Another said that the picture of the steps is a stock picture and that he stands behind what he sales. Today, the 15th he has received 11 more feedbacks with two of them as neutrals. He has 3 neutrals and 13 positves since he started selling March 8th.

I will try contacting 10 more members and send them all the following message;

Dear sir

This seller is ripping new collectors off! He's grades most of his coins MS68 which is impossible for most dates. For a few Jefferson nickel auctions he is using a picture of mine that I have used in an auction a couple of months ago. It's a picture of a set of full steps for a 1977-D Jefferson nickel. These steps do not represent any of the coins he's selling! I have already filed a Image/Text Theft fraud report with Ebay but have yet to hear from them. Also Ebay only allows 10 ebay member contacts a day. So I do need help in getting this message out.

A MS68 coin must be fully struck with full details! A full step nickel needs to have 5 complete steps without nicks or bridges or melds in the steps! Each step must have full separation from all the other steps, they must not meet anywhere along the steps. A MS68 coin must be a near perfect coin to get that high of a grade! Do not hesitate leaving appropriate feedback if this seller starts to ignore you when you want to return the coins! Not only can you help send this message by copying and pasting it to past auction winners, it can also be sent to the bidders as well. The following is my email address; lestroup @ msn (then add) .com. I want to hear back from these people to get there opinions on this seller!

If you can help, it will speed things up to warn others about this seller.

Thank you in advance, do not hesitate to send me an email.

Regards Leo

I'm behind you Leo. I don't know many Ebayer's but if I can help. I do know that there are almost NO Jeff nickels in MS68, let alone with FS!!

I've just checked a couple of his auctions and my picture has been replaced with a reverse shot of the coins. But he has used the same picture for two nickels; a 47-D and 49-D. I also have now noticed he is using paypal.

Isn't that a bit liberal? I always thought the definition of "full" was:

Complete measure; utmost extent; the highest state or degree.

Wouldn't that preclude the necessity of six steps, not five? 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

Almost forgot. I bid $0.25 on one of his "full step" Jeffies. 893scratchchin-thumb.gif Wonder if I'll actually win. Sent him the following though:

Dear thespeedycamel05,

I placed a bid on your nickel only because I give you the benefit of the doubt that you are honest in your auction. However, I am disturbed by the reverse scan of the coin. Is this the actual reverse of the coin you describe as MS68, blast white, full step? Because the scan I see is tarnished, weakly struck, lacking in luster, merged in the steps, and overall far from the coin you describe. I think got either your pictures or your descriptions mixed up. Anyway, here's hoping for the best!

I figure IF the coin is actually even uncirculated, $2.25 wouldn't be too bad of a deal to neg him for ya. And the magic number is Six....not Five smile.gif but, then, I'm not really a Jeffie collector....yet.
