Received 2005 nickel rolls from the Mint with I think error?

6 posts in this topic

Hi, Just received the new nickel rolls from the mint. The Denver mint roll has what looks a rim that is stamped in. not sure if I should open the roll or not. Also the dever roll has the Jefferson side on both ends of the roll. The Philly roll has one side with the Jefferson pic and the other end shows the bison.

Any Ideas if this is an error coin and should I open the roll to see if the others are the same? see the picture ..

Hi Roy - That kind of mark is the result of a coin counter used by the Mint's automatic rolling machine. It is actually damage to the coin. If it were me, I'd send the roll back to the Mint and have them replace it. And as a wise fellow on these boards once said, call the Mint first to get them to send you a return label.

Welcome to the boards! Hope you come around often.

Roy , it's difficult to tell from the pic. If it appears to be stamped, you could look at the word "Liberty" and it might look like it has been mashed or crushed. If it looks like a deep scratch or gouge, it may have been caused by the machine that rolls them.

The coins are rolled in the paper wrappers randomly. So, it's a toss-up whether the ends will be heads or tails.

Welcome to the boards!

I'd keep it. Hell $8.95

No doubt! It is still an interesting coin even if it is damaged. Why pay S&H charges to return it?

Call the mint and ask for a return shipping label. I found out from Greg that returns are on the Mint for damaged coins or substandard goods.
