Jefferson nickel collection! Enjoy the pics!

Nice collection, Leo! Just out of curiosity, are there any of these you are looking to upgrade? Are there any coins that you are looking for that have been particularly hard-to-find? Of your current collection, are there any that are your favorites?

Very Nice coins and great presentation. Along with some of Chris questions, how long did it take you to get that Super Collection? Again Great collection of Jeffersons.

Really nice job Leo! You have some spectacular Jefferson nickels. Great attention has been paid to strike and you also have some wonderfully toned pieces. An obvious labor of love. 893applaud-thumb.gif893applaud-thumb.gif893applaud-thumb.gif

Thanks everyone for your nice comments!

Chris, the answers to all 3 of your questions is a resounding "Yes"! There are several coins that are my favorites, that need upgraded and are difficult to find, too many dates to list.

Ken

I think I got started in 1991. Up until the FUN show in Fort Lauderdale, FL, I thought I had a pretty good collection going until I saw Frank Corso's collection and I still do have a great collection but it falls way short of what Corso has put together. It was comforting to find out that my 44-S and 51-S came from his collection and I paid $171 and $203 respectively for those two coins back in Sept of 1996 auction. And I might add, they were raw coins at that time.

Many of the coins have pedigrees, some came from collectors that sold their entire collections through auctions on the east coast. Many others came from collectors who had upgraded a coin in their collections. Many of these coins were located as early as the 1970's by those collectors. So there are better collections/coins out there then what I have. There are several coins where I left off the pedigrees because those coins came from collections that are still active. And someday, I have hopes of adding more coins from those collections. The collection is not complete, it's about 40% along the way to where I would like to see each coin in respect to it's strike, grade and steps but that may never happen. It's a very antagonizing feeling to know that this series is impossible to complete to ones satisfaction. Then again, no one else has been able to do it either! Nagengast, Ragsdale, Fivas, Kent, Chylinski, Adkins and many others, they all fell short and they KNOW how impossible this series is to complete! They came close and they know that there are a handfull of dates that do not exist in 5 full steps!

I could help you with your collection, it depends on what calibur of coins you're after.

Simply superb, Leo! Excellent strikes, luster, tone, steps---just super! And the presentation is the best I've seen too. Makes a big difference when the viewer needs do nothing but sit there and enjoy them one right after the other!

MarkYou shouldn't have any problem finding a 6FS 50-D! NGC has certified 44 of them! With 34 at the MS66 6FS grade! Imagine that, what took Anacs a decade to certify just 2, NGC has 44 of them........ screwy.gif!LeoMark, send me a pm!

Don

Many of those pics are 5-6 years old and they show it. Whenever I get the chance, it takes me 2-3 hours to setup and crop 5-6 pictures. Recently I've received 8-9 Pcgs slabs of some very spectacular coins for their dates with full steps but yet Pcgs didn't designayed them as such. Waite when I post those pictures and of the steps, it's unbelieveable!

I guess no-one gives a rats arse on the pops of the 50-D? If anyone has one or two, 27_laughing.gif I'd sure like to see it! I'll pay shipping bothways! 893whatthe.gif

Leo: You have a spectacular set!! I really like your pictures. Maybe someday I will start collecting toned coins.

Frank

Thank you Frank

They look better in pictures then person, don't they! 27_laughing.gif It took awhile but I've finally figured out where my 44-S and 51-S came from! There were 3 coins in that auction that fetched $100+ and I had two of them! Overby was probably the underbidder as well! He was bidding back in those days 27_laughing.gif

Very nice set...congrats on the hard work. As other have mentioned I am also working on a certified set of Jefferson Nickels. I think I have a third of the set the last I looked so I have a long way to go, but IO continue to pick coins up here and there and they all add up.

I can't say I am as concerned with the strike...toning etc....but I don't specialize in Nickels.....more so Toned Morgans etc thumbsup2.gif

My PCGS Registry Set

It looks like I am leaving most of the easy ones from the 50's and 60's for my last hooray.....just worked out that way. I am trying to just get 65's an above and I think all of mine fit the bill except for 1 MS64 and I can easily upgradethat one. headbang.gif
