Yes,and I bet the entire Beverly Hills Coin Club was bidding on them sign-rantpost.gif

For only $2 more...... "estimate the surviving number of coins in the assigned grade."

Gee, that's great! Then we'll know how many are left to be melted down if silver should go above $75 an ounce.

For only $2 more...... "an appraisal value for each coin."

Did someone from Beverly Hills buy the Wisconsin "Extra Leaves" quarters? Will the ACCGS stand behind their appraisal if a coin actually sells for less? Of course not!

Appraisals are meaningless. Our home is appraised by the County Tax Assessor at $575,000, but some real estate agents have estimated the value at $3.5 mill. It all boils down to what the buyer will bear.

"The census and appraisal are for time indicated and may increase afterward...."

Naturally, this disclaimer is included, but they are avoiding the negative impact of mentioning the possibility that a coin may decrease in value if estimated pops are wrong.

It is interesting to note that ACCGS is also an acronym for "Any Coin Can Go South" .

Of course, this is just my opinion, but I think that ACCGS has put too much icing on the cake .

Chris sign-rantpost.gifWe need an "IG" of a Roman Statesman with "Thumbs Down" .

I really like their comparison of the two chain cents on their web page. What they fail to mention is that the one in the ACCGS holder is a Galery Mint piece. devil.gif

I get the impression that some of you don't think much of ACCGS? 893whatthe.gif

James, I don't care if someone is a used car salesman, QVC spokesperson or a grading service. I just tend to shy away from anyone who makes it a point of "hyping" something that has little value or merit just to cloud an issue. In this case, estimates and appraisals can be difficult to substantiate.

As for the comparison of chain cents, I'm sure you realize that it is very easy to find lousy pictures intended to support their contentions. Who would argue against them when you can't even see the competitor's product. We just had a discussion about lousy Heritage pics in another thread.

PS. My yay.giflikes your 27_laughing.gif, but your 893whatthe.gifwent over like a tonofbricks.gif!

Interestingly enough to say, BHCC are the same people who finally refunded my money from a ebay transaction that went bad 4 years ago at the hands of then president Omar Silva. He's no longer there and BHCC has likely been paying for his mistakes ever since. I gave up several times on my refund during that time until I finally tried one more time mentioning that I would bring up their name and the incident in a couple of major coin forums. I don't know if that was the reason they finally made good on my refund or the fact that there are now some decent folks running the organization.

I for one would like to see a new certification company come along that could show some consistency in their grading of coins. I imagine it takes alot of money to design and mass produce a new slab and push it out the door. But on the other hand, I don't have the guts to cross all my coins into a new company that really hasn't establish a strong market with coins.....yet! There's a slim possibilty!

ACCGS, IMO is not a stong enough name. There's a familiarity to it that doesn't make it look too appealing or would it become popular with the numismatic community.

Something with more pizzazz in it like Consistent Numismatic Service of America, CNSA! Almost looks like NASA doesn't it. Oh well! tongue.gif

James, I have to warn you that my last name is derived from a Yiddish word that means "crazy", and I've been trying to live up to it all of my life. Unfortunately, whenever I try to expound on a subject in a serious manner, EVERYONE THINKS I'M NUTS!

"These volunteers are well-trained, using the most modern counterfeit detection and grading techniques"

Modern grading techniques... like eyes? 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

No, they put them in a pay telephone, and if they get a dial tone it's VF.....

if, after dialing, a recorded message asks for more money, it's VG.....

if the party receiving the call is willing to accept it "Collect", it's AU.....

if the conversation continues for more than 3 minutes without a recorded message interrupting asking for more money, it's MS.....

however, if after dialing, a recording states that the number has been disconnected, it has been BODY-BAGGED!

Sorry, EZ, but the Coroner's Office raided me last night and they confiscated all of them. Seems it's illegal to keep cadavers in the house.

yay.gifyay.gifDoes this mean that I'm MR. YUK TOO ?
