I have a south african coin that is copper and completley red.I believe it needs some conservation for some carbon spots or something that is on the coin in a couple of spots.could the coin be conserved without doing harm to the redness of the coin?

Red copper coins are considered very much on a case by case basis. Preservation of the red color is of great importance. If we feel there is a reasonable chance that the color will not be maintained, we will choose to not conserve that coin. It is possible to conserve a coin and it will remain red.
