Mike Farone stolen from ANACS by PCGS?

That is what I heard across the street. I guess this means ANACS will have to change the picture for their ads when they show all of their grders together.

Mike Farone is one of the pillars of ANACS and for him to move to CA, PCGS would have had to pay MEGABUCKS.and a long term contract. Farone is an encylopedia of coin information, and, if true, means that PCGS will now go into varieties big time. Good move of PCGS, since varieties are a wealth of business.

It's an interesting move, but PCGS is awful with varieties. They are without a doubt the worst of the so-called Big 3. They will have to change their entire philosophy with regard to varieties and not just hire a variety guy if this is going to make any difference.

I wonder if this had more to do with the inability of PCGS to grade coins at a decent speed and less to do with a move toward varieties.

"I am wondering what, if any, effect this will have on ANACS."

Mike was part of a great team. ANACS was extremely consistent over the years bending toward the conservative side and with fantastic variety skills. Unfortunately, when a team gets divided, the uncertainty and consistency takes months to adjust. ANACS will still be around because of their cheap services, but accurate grading will suffer for a time.
