Perhaps one of the best 1954-S Jefferson nickels to own!

Hi everyoneKen Claypool (Solid) recently sold many of his coins from his Pcgs FS Jefferson nickel registry set. And I believe I was late for church when word came my way but I believe I landed a couple of great coins when I bought both Ken's 1954-S nickels! The MS66 example is the best I've seen for this date in respect to it's strike, condition and steps! With a 5545 step count, this coin surpasses the overall quality of both Corso's and JHF's registry set coins and I 've personally seen them both! For the other 1954-S MS65 with a 4434 step count, a coin from the Drude collection, has a decent medium strike with lustrous tinfoil gold and magneta blue toning, this is a very awesome coin! I tried for two days to picture both coins with no luck but here's what I came up with so far!The first pic is the MS66 and the lower pic shows the MS65

The bottom one is really nice....what do they go for? I saw a 54-S on eBay once in a 64FS slab for $5k once...I think. It was ugly too. confused.gif

You are very welcome, Leon! I thought these were both very nice - here

are my original descriptions:

1954-S MS66

Even, light gold toning with strong luster throughout. Well struck for this issue with good details and very close to 5 steps – one tick and a slight bridge between the 4th and 5th steps under the 3rd pillar. Nice and clean, with only a few light, scattered marks. Super coin for the money!

1954-S MS65

Very attractive medium gold toning with some magenta. Lustrous and well struck for this date with 4.5 steps. A portion of the sixth step shows as well. Very clean for the assigned grade, this should be in a higher holder. From a former Registry set, this coin is labeled with the “Drude Coll.” pedigree. Super coin here!

I'm sorry, but I am now fresh out of 54-S gems! Enjoy! smile.gif

Isn't it amazing that you can get such superior pieces for a relative pittance compared to pieces that had less than a square millimeter greater step detail? Without that tag under 3, the top cvoin would be worth moon money. Silly beyond words. I really like the coins (as I've said) and think the overall detail of each is vastly superior to the few 54-S FS labeled pieces I've seen.

Might ye think lad that I'm a bit wiser then most of thee blocs! Hello

Not to be a smart @ss but I challenge anyone to show me a better 54-S! The TGS's certainly can't do it! When NGC and Pcgs started grading the FS nickels

2-3 years ago, they didn't know what the he!! they were doing! This is why the nevadaman collection got away with selling for $144,000! We'll never know what's really a rare coin in the Jefferson nickel series as long as these TGS's keep jacking around with the facts! Duh
