Wisonsin Quarter, Error or variety

Was wondering what people here think, now that this story has made into the mass media. Is this quarter a mint error or a variety. What do people think of the madness that is going on now. People paying outrageous sums of money for bags, rolls etc. People running to banks to buy 100 rolls, in hopes of finding that coin.

To me, this whole thing just seems crazy......

It's not an error or a variety. It'a a conspiracy! 893whatthe.gif

I think the error/variety designation would depend on how/why it occured. Since no one is sure I guess it would be difficult to designate.

Error or variety depends on what caused it. Is it an actual different die design? If so, it is a variety. Is it a piece of something that damaged the die causing the extra "leaf", then it is an error.

The coin isn't as interesting to me as learning who at the mint was responsible for modifying the die. That should make an interesting read.
