Buyers Beware !!!!

15 posts in this topic

Recently there has been a particular coin offered for sale on ebay. A PCGS 1856 PF-64 Flyer. The exact same coin has been offerd by at least three different sellers this week with low opening bids and up to $1500 opening bids with buy it now offers written into the description of $3000 to $3500. These are impossibly low buy it nows that appeal greatly to the unwary. I have been in contact with ebay security. They sent a message to me concerning the item being a high risk for fraud. I would say so, three seperate listings of the exact same coin with the exact same registration number by three different sellers in less than one week.So far they have pulled two of the listings after they had received bids. A third has arisen. So BUYERS BEWARE !!!!!!! The listings have all had the same description relating to the S-9 variety. But with different sellers with hundreds of feedbacks with 98% -100% pos ratios.

A friend of mine has noticed the same type of thing with an ATV he was interested in. Also with a low BIN written into the description. When he saw it the first time, he e-mailed the seller. Never got a reply. Never bid. After the auction, he got a bill for the ATV, as if he bid on it.

He called me today to report the exact same ATV for sale by a different seller in a different state. Same photo, same desvription and low BIN in the description only. "E-mail me if you are interested".

Always some scam going on......Thanks for the heads-up on the '56....

You can't blame eBay if you don't report it!

Not saying you're blaming anyone but the seller, but with so many transactions they do need a little help spotting crooks.

It seems like EBAY is the home for allot of internet fraud. If anyone was interested in the super bowl and just happened to do a search on super bowl tickets before the event, you could really tell how much scamming was going on.

((( with different sellers with hundreds of feedbacks with 98% -100% pos ratios. )))

How do they do that?? Are they stealing good accounts from people? or bribing sellers with high feedback ratings to do their dirty work?

I've been seeing that 56 flyer every so often. That was IRA STEIN'S that sold a while back.

Be sure to keep an eye on the bid history when you see that coin. The sellers usually don't care for "this-auction-iza-scam"

lol.

my boy wonders why he gets ebay emails. grin.gif

Like with a phishing scam? Interresting theory. Well could be right too!

There's a new one called pharming where they make your browser think it's at the correct site. This one scares me because you don't have to open an attachment to get hooked. frustrated.gif

Just curious how many people report attempted hijackings to eBay or PayPal?

to Ebay's credit, which is usually RARE, they have been relatively fast about shutting these auctions down that are blatant scams like the 56 flyer that keeps running if people report them.

Yes, I must agree Goose. I reported another one a day or two ago that was listed very early in the AM:. It too had already received bids but was removed later. sumo.gif

The ATV, dirtbike and scooter business is really big right now. It's common for sellers to copy and past others auctions. Lots of the information is copy paste right from the importers website. Many of these auctions are just to advertise their business. Many sell at cost and make their profit on the freight they charge. They sell out of Ebay and save the fees. Many of these dealers have no inventory.

I deal with a lot of these guys. Because of storage space they sell first and then pull the product from my inventory.

They are not getting rich on this. They make a few bucks on each bike. It's a highly competitive market with lots of risk. It's really a crazy business to be in.
