Watched a 1917 Sovereign sell on Ebay - great price if not fraud - opinion

A 1917 Sovereign sold for just over $3,730 on ebay today. It's a R5 coin, pop. 3 with only 1 finer and was MS 63 NGC. The seller had a 100% rating with 32 transactions - most if not all where he was the buyer.

Too many Red flags - if it seems to good to be true - it probably is, but if it was legit - the buyer made one hell of a purchase. He could easily make five times that amount.

Given the Ebay buyers protection - would you have taken the chance?

What do they normally go for? Based on what you say (except for the price), I don't necessarily see any major red flags.

If the auction is over, why not post a link here so we can offer informed opinions? (shrug)

I cannot locate the link on Ebay this morning. In January a MS61 1917 sold for $23,500 at Heritage. This one was a MS63 and sold for $3,730. 20k difference for a higher graded coin?

A search of completed auctions didn't turn that one up. I'm guessing it was pulled, probably fraudulent as you noted.

If it just ended yesterday, a search won't find it for at least 24 hours. "Completed" auctions on eBay are not populated until at least 24 hours after the auction closes...

Auction ended on Monday, 4 May - still cannot find the completed auction. Had the link in my browser and that is missing now as well. Still wondering what happened.

Ebay probably pulled it. You won't be able to find it with a search, you would have to have the auction number and even then all you will get is an "item not found" found page.

Like I said - if its sounds to good to be real - it probably isn't. Too bad - that would have been quite a haul. Out of the sellers 32 positive transactions - none appeared to be coin related and most if not all was as a buyer - not a seller.
