eBay lowers fees after complaints

Five cents is five cents, alright!

Last time, I ran 43 auctions, 21 sold, generated almost $400! But the ebay fees were $158.16! Of course, two auctions were "gallery featured" at $20 a pop and blowing up the pics were 75 cents each!

Here's my take on it. They're using a classic marketing strategy. Force a 50% rise in prices down your customer's throats. Then, after they complain, agree to "lower prices" by 30%. This nets you a 20% increase, but your customers' goodwill since, after all, you "lowered prices". mad.gif

You pay alot in fees because you set a high opening price. I start all my auctions at 1c and let em go. I also use an image hosting service that allows me to post larger pics and I dont pay for additional pictures. It is the same one you use. The monthly fee is small compared to the nickels and dimes that Ebay constantly hits you with.

 

Ebay is usually very efficient. Very, very rarely will a $100 coin sell for $50. On the rare occurance that this happens, you would still be ahead by saving $100 in listing fees.

I definitely agree with Chinook, and have been running my auctions with "1cNR!" (one cent no-reserve) for years. It yields the lowest possible eBay fees and garners the largest number of bids almost unfailingly. I do lose on a significant number of auctions, but make up for it overall on those that do well.

My mistake was using ebay's mr lister and ignoring common sense that Vendio would have saved me some on the pictures. But my hard headed intent to push my agenda in fully struck nickels, caused me to overlook and forgo a more practical means that essentially has cost me a few extra bucks. And now, I don't like it and I still need to update my credit card with them so I can pay that bill. I will do it differently next time since they're shutting down email contacts. They just don't have a ceiling cap with their selling fees, same goes for paypal! Few sellers like the idea these companies are taking high revenues with their percentages when the transactions are high. For myself, I believe I'll need to fall back on my collector base that I've established over the years and use ebay to recruit more contacts through low cast sales. If anyone is wondering, that number may very well have reached 100+. And yes, that means more stamps and envelopes for the price lists I used to send out before the dawning age of the internet and possibly an ad or two in our popular numismatic periodicals CW and NN again. And hopefully a website.

Hey guys, I'm a regular over at the CGC boards and just happened upon this thread. Over in our CGC Marketplace section, we just started a "Reverse eBay" thread. One for $25, One for $50, and another for $100. People just list what they want to sell for those prices, and members PM the poster. Simple and No Fees! Just an idea.
