NGC Plaque and Dealing With Local Dealers posted by The Argentum Collector

I was pleasantly surprised to receive a very nice NGC plaque this week in recognition of my NGC Award for 2014 (Most informative Custom Set). The registry, the registry awards and plaques of recognition just make the hobby all the more fun and I applaud NGC for providing us collectors these things for our hobby!

I've put a lot of time into my custom set and have added about 50 new world silver coins to the set since the award (283 total world silver coins from 65 different countries). Today I acquired a NGC 1987 Chinese Panda PF 69 Ultra Cameo coin from Silver Eagle coins in Virginia Beach, Virginia (hands down the best coin shop in the Hampton Roads area). While the internet and it's many venues for purchasing coins is always fun, I really enjoy dealing with local dealers who have actual store fronts. It's always a good experience to go hang out at a local coin store and talk with people that share the same passion for the hobby! Plus you never know what you may find, as people are always bringing in new coins to sell or trade.

While it was a great honor to receive the registry award this year my goal is to receive the award for Best Overall Custom Set some day. If you haven't viewed my set please do, I enjoy discussing it's coins and I like feedback and constructive criticism.

Congrats on the award David. I too like dealing locally. With my membership with the local club, I have a meeting monthly with a lot of folks here in Palm Beach. I also am a member of the Ft. Lauderdale coin Club and many of those two clubs are dealers so interaction and purchases and sales are always going on.

Recently I have traded off almost my entire collection for high grade one of a kind top population items and it has been a lot of fun.

Where to next?

Again congrats on the award. Took a lot of work.

David

Congratulations on your well deserved award. I'm glad to see that the award is not the end to additions in your set. Many of the custom sets are never completed, they just continue to grow.

My "Most Informative" based on seated images can only be complete when examples of seated coins are exhausted, which will never happen. My only hope is that the set is complete at any moment and stands on its own. Keep up the good work.

Gary
