Did the Mint use $200 bags in 1958?

Chris

Yes.

I've seen a few mixed rolls of these so it seems likely that at least some bags were mixed. Most rolls though are solid white or black. It's a tough call.

This is why I was wondering if the bag was from the US mint, these two bags have a little more writing on them.

The mint has used a wide array of marking and lettering on bags over the years. Sometimes there is no printing at all and merely a packing date and mint ID stamped on them.

I have an original mint bag from 1973 and it has more writting than the one in the auction and less writing than the ones above. I think they use whatever they can get on the cheap or something.

You'd think the US mint would have use something more legit then a bag that might have been used for nails.

Here's another beef! Why open the bag when it's clearly printed on the

bag "1958 nickels" as can be seen in the auction picture?

And why does the seller expect $600 + for the bag? It's very unlikely anything would come out of it higher then MS64. A MS65 might be worth it but not a 64.

sign-offtopic.gifLeo, did you see that the Mint is now selling the canvas bags? Of course, they're empty. I asked them several years ago why they didn't do this. God, they are slow thinkers!

Didn't know about the that! I wonder if they'll stamp any date on them by request! Fainting

The ebay hammer price was $600 and sniped with 8 secs left. That's 15 cents each! Heck, that's what I try to pay for bulk cut-out mint set nickels! Hmm

Update!!

I randomly select 40 coins out of the bag of 4000 and sell them as an "unsearched" BU roll.

Hi all!

I sent the buyer an email asking that I was a buyer for certain EDS stuff to help offset his costs but instead I received the above response! So.........what does a roll of 1958 nickels go for these days?

...stamp any date on them by request?

Leo, I don't think so. As a matter of fact, you can't request the bags by denomination. When you place an order, they are taken from the entire lot at random. Unused, empty mint bags are $8.95 each.
