what is this coin??????

7 posts in this topic

hi everyone, im extremely new to this coin collecting game and i have a coin i need checking out, i live out in the sticks and theres no coin dealers anywhere near me. this coin is half the size of the twenty gold dollar and has the date 1907 in roman numerals on it. the thing what gets me about it is that it doesn't have the tender on it, where the twenty dollar piece says "united states of america twenty dollars" on it, mine simply says "untited states of america". it also doesnt have the "in god we trust" motto underneath the eagle. is this a mock coin? does anyone have any clues. any help would be appreciated. Ive done so much research on the net and im getting nowhere.

I took Lee's images and photo-shopped them to try and resize to correct proportions and contrast. Below are small images of Lee's coin (in the first image, it is in the lower left-hand corner, with genuine coins shown along with it for size comparision). Note: I believe the second image to be B&W:

In my opinion, it is merely a fantasy token with manganese or gold plating to simulate the effect of a gold coin. It is definitely not a Federal mint issue. What does everyone else think?
