Well, without seeing the back, it looks like a really nice 65 to me. A really beautiful coin!

Like what was already said you can't grade a coin without seeing both the obv and rev. so i'm not even going to take a guess.

High-end MS64. But, I agree that you really can't grade too well from an image.

EVP, in your opinion, what keeps this from 65?

I will stick with my initial guess of MS-65, a very pleasing coin!

I'd guess an MS65 or even possibly MS66.

The obverse appears nice except for the damage to the spikes in the crown, the minor tick on Liberty's cheek bone and possibly on her jaw, and what appear to be small blemishes in the lefthand field. The rim appears to be solid overall.

What really struck me was the definition of the "N" in "ONE" on the reverse. The photo is somewhat dark on the righthand side, but overall the reverse does not appear to be a detractor.

So there it is, a wild guess based on a photo! It looks like a really nice coin.

I'm just comparing it to my '26-D coin, which is graded MS64 by PCGS. (I think mine is also a very PQ 64 that won't look bad in a 65 holder.)

And, to answer the question directly, not one thing is keeping it from a 65, IMO, but it's the total # of contact marks that I see. Please understand that I cannot fully make out the luster of the coin (because luster is 3D and the image is 2D). So, with only so much info to go on, I'd rather grade conservatively.

EVP is the official winner....I'll have to think up a prize. The coin was graded MS64 by NGC, but I honestly don't know what kept it from a higher grade. The strike is as good as a Peace Dollar gets, the luster is blinding, and without magnification not a mark is visible. Oh well, it certainly wasn't overgraded!

STRONG MS64 OBVERSE, APPEARS TO HAVE SOME MARKS. IF STRONG MS65 REVERSE YOU MIGHT GET A 65 OUT OF THIS MERC.
