44-D NGC MS67*FS

I had a bid in of $350, over $100 more then Nevadamans registry Jeff sold for (PCGS MS67FS). That got jumped real quick so I bid $850. Jumped again! My final bid 0f $1000 still wasn't enough!!

I QUIT!!!!! frustrated.gif

That's funny, David. I was watching that auction just for kicks and giggles. I am amazed at the going price for that coin. If people are so desperate for rainbows in their lives, then they should start listening to more Kermit the Frog albums. smirk.gif

Kermit the Frog???? He did albums??????????? I guess you gotta have kids to keep up on this stuff!! grin.gif

I really would have liked to own it and even at $1000 I knew I was paying way too much. But I would have been happy with the price and the coin as it appears to have all 4 attributes I look for...luster, eye appeal, strike and steps. Don't think another 10, 5 or even one more like this will be slabbed in the near future.

Here's another one I'm bidding/watching, tho I have to admit the strike isn't up to a 68 on the reverse. Just as crazy I know but what the heck!! You only get shots at these kinds of coins once or twice a decade! Still not worth it??? Maybe after that 10 years is up, we'll see!

That 1940-D MS68 is a beautiful coin. Do you think it's worth the premium to go from 67 to 68? Tough call. That's a lot of golf (not that I play, but I know you do!).

Good luck David! 893crossfingers-thumb.gif

Ain't it somethin when the plastic is worth more then the coin it holds? Two very similar coins---two different slabs---$1500 difference?? insane.gif

My set of Jeffs runs thru 1976 but I'm leaving the SMS and/or MS 64-67 Jeffs til last. Hard enough getting FS 64/65/66's in most dates/mms.

P.S. Almost all (and certainly reasonable to say all) of the FS Jeffs up at Heritage right now are very over-graded at least as far as strike goes. Nasty lookin reverses! Wouldn't want any of 'em! And thanks for the luck---I'll know in about 18 minutes!

I could not be sure, given the photography. makepoint.gif However, my 1966 SMS MS68 cam is a gorgeous coin with nice contrast that's quite even. Who knows how the PCGS piece looks in person!

Again, with the horrible photography, I would not venture a guess. I've seen a few of the pieces in person that are currently up for auction. They were quite excellent. Goes to show what we've said over and over again about Heritage's photos.
