Who is going to have to mess with this?

Sold a coin on ebay, shipped it, insured. The coin gets to the guys house, he isn't home, so they leave the typical slip saying come by PO to pick it up. He goes, they lost it somewhere at the PO. Am I going to have to [#@$%!!!] with this and getting his money back, or do I just send him a copy of the Insured Mail Receipt?

You're fine. The Post Office admits that they had the item and cannot find it. The PO Will pay the claim.

FYI, I've had this happen to me on both ends. The Post Office eventually found the items. There were placed in the wrong holding area.

I recently filed a claim with a *lost* item. The PO has no record of it since I sent it. First, I had to wait a month to make a claim. Then there was a STUPID amount of paperwork and too much running around on my part (find the right PO to file the claim, and THEN the personnel weren't there to handle it, and THEN they gave me the wrong form, and THEN I had to go back to find the right person with the right form)! frustrated.gifChristo_pull_hair.gif Then they told me it'd be at least three weeks before I heard back! yeahok.gif Hope you don't have to go through that!

You'll need to sign the form and provide the receipt and basic details about the shipment to the post office. Other than that, you are done.

I have been waiting to collect since OCTOBER 20, 2004 on a simple fifty-dollar claim for a damaged item. It was a 1921 Peace dollar, ANACS EF, that got cracked (actually, "smashed" is more like it) during shipment.

It's only my third claim ever, but all three have been very, VERY painful.
