Coin Elite Software

8 posts in this topic

I have been using Coin Elite (Version 12.05 from Trove Software) as a database to record coins and prices of my collection. I have purchased two versions (at $59.00 each) from them but can not get them to respond to repeated emails for support.

I had to reformat my computer and can not reload Coin Elite software because I do not have the original version's customer I.D., only the I.D. for the later version. I have been disappointed with the software because the promised coin pricing feature is only partially implemented. Though the last version (v. 12.05) promised updated pricing, it still is only partially complete. Plus, the database is an older version of MS Access that will not load and is not compatible with newer MS Office for XP software. As a result, I can not retrieve the backup inventory files from floppy.

Between the lack of support and the lack of promised features, I am quite unsatisfied with this product and would not recommend it. I am going to build my own database for my collection which will be more stable and more complete. I do not know who owns this firm but their Customer Support certainly is lacking.

Sorry to hear of your travails, Charlie! sumo.gif

I use Excel for all of my record keeping - straight forward. I use CompuPic to organize my photo records.

Best of luck to you!

That's too bad to hear. Similar to Hoot, I built for myself a custom Excel workbook and put in all the information I need. It works very well and is extremely easy to do.

That is what I did. I used MS Access and did some programming too! I built windows and menus and all that stuff. Works great for me....but it was a lot of work as I'm not all that familiar with VBA and if I stop programming long enough I seem to forget most of the subtlies. frown.gif I still need to clean some stuff up but don't have the time presently....

The easier route is Excel...try that...I'm sure it will be fine.

Sorry to hear about everyones troubles! This is what I do, call me old fashion but a pencil and notepad is all I need! 27_laughing.gif What's really neat about this setup is that the pencil has an eraser that comes in real handy whenever I've made an upgrade to my collection. Which is real seldom so the notepad may pick up a little dust between log-ins! As for pictures, my 164 color crayon set takes care of that! smile.gif

Coin Elite is a great product but I went thru the same [#@$%!!!] on support. Rick is the one to talk with but he is just too hard to reach.

I gave up on them for support on 12.05. I had to figure it out for myself.

In my case I had to uninstall Ebay Turbo Lister, install Elite 12.05, install backup, install Turbo Lister again.

Turbo Lister changes some system files in Windows that create problems loading ver 12.05.

Not sure I will buy any newer versions of Elite.

I do not think that I will buy any more updates either. The database is out of date and too unstable for me. The backup files also have a tendency to become corrupted and unstable. I have lost the program a couple times (it just disappears). So for now, I will live with it while I construct an Excel file.
