Don't take any wooden duces

13 posts in this topic

Some people don't like these type of wood grain coppers but I think they are quite interesting and some are very good looking. Here's one I am particularly fond of.

I just took these yesterday with my new Digital Rebel. I hope I have the image insertion correct.

Any one care to guess the grade?

Do people here like the "guess the grade" posts on this side of the street? I don't see many of them here.

That's a very nice shot and a beautiful coin! smile.gif I've always been quite fond of the woodgrain effect, though I believe it is due to the alloy in the planchet. As far as the grade goes, I really couldn't tell you, though some here might give a guess. thumbsup2.gif

I would guess MS65RB. I have owned a MS64RB 1908-S and a MS64RB 1909-S IHC that both had distinct wood grain toning. I agree that it is interesting.

Really cool coin! cool.gif I like the woodgrain coppers very much. But then again, I just like toned copper!

I'd put the grade at 66bn. It's an immaculate piece that's pretty well struck.

Thanks for the comments and guesses. Here is a picture of the coin in the slab.

Bruceswar correctly guessed the grade on the slab, but it's in an old slab and I think it's better than that. I have several other 64's and this one is much more mark free than they are. I do think the BN designation is correct. It has that nice glossy brown surface that I like too.

So, should I post more images occasionally? Are these too big? I shrunk them until they went just under the 150K limit, but they do seem large.

Would you rather see pictures of my pocket change?

These are great images. You might reduce them to 800x600 or so, just so that most folks can seem them without scrolling sideways.

I think you should submit the coin for a re-grade. Very nice piece.

You darn well better!!!! grin.gif

There is a setting on your camera that will allow you to take smaller pics. They should come aout around 700-800 KB. I resize them to about 600x600. You will then have to compress the pic a little to meet the 150kb maximum but they should still be very good quality. Or you could subscribe to an image hosting site and post those big pics in all their glory wink.gif

I did see that I could take the pictures at a lower resolution, but on my first day I wasn't about to do that. grin.gif

I'll reduce them down next time. The size of that slab surprised me a bit. I've got some web space with my ISP but I don't know if I have a bandwidth limit to worry about.

The original images were around 3Mb but after I cropped them and compressed them they were much smaller. I still had to reduce the size about 50% or so. The reverse needed to be reduced more than the obverse, you will notice.

Hoot, if I ever decide to sell this I will send it in for a regrade. The only reason to get it regraded now is to ensure it gets sold in the right grade in case of my untimely demise. I doubt my wife would think to resubmit it. 27_laughing.gif

And she'd most likely be the one thinking of your untimely demise. insane.gif

Did you mean to say "planning" instead of "thinking of"? 893whatthe.gif
