Crusader States, Edessa, Baldwin II, 2nd Reign, 1108-1118, AE Light Follis, ca after AD1110. Count in conical helmet and chain mail holds cross, sword in sheath/Cross, no rays from center, Met. 109ff sim. Obv. centered slightly low losing only his feet, only minor weakness with a fairly even strike, slightly rough dark green patina, clear types, RARE, Fine-Fine+....

I don't think patina is the whole problem, cause I don't see too much encrustation. I think it was struck with a crude worn out die, and combined with the patina, you get that. Rare coin though.

That is a crusty one. Does there ever coin a point when you say too much patina?

I saw that thread and was impressed with your answer. To me it looked like a dirt encrusted wad of gum.

 

Soon the uncleaned ancients Greg and I ordered will be here and we'll have lots of stuff like that to admire!
