Numismatic Documentary

6 posts in this topic

The behind-the-scenes workings of the auction houses, private and public dealers, big-time and small-time collectors, shows, exhibits, etc., has always been of interest to me. Imagine a 1 hour Nova detailing the above, walking the viewer thru the closed doors of the auctions, shows and dealers. Giving us the scoop on how things are done, from a little collector like me buying a raw/slabbed coin from eBay to the major dealers obtaining inventory for their clientele, the auction houses and how they figure into the hobby, all the intracacies of buying/selling/collecting numismatic material, how the internet and the TPGs have affected our hobby, how they all interact with each other.

This could very easily be done but my question to you is: who would you suggest should be given the position of hosting the show, one who has the knowledge, respect and credentials to get us thru those closed doors and honest answers from the movers and shakers of the industry? Is there one preeminent individual in numismatics that could pull this off?

How about a mime? I could learn more from a mime than someone feeding me their BS about how they have benefitted the coin hobby! (Hey, guess what, we don't have a serious emoticon)

...how they have benefitted the coin hobby!

Leo, not looking for this in any way, shape or form! Simply the one person that is known in numismatics well enough to get the doors open and the answers from people that ordinarily wouldn't talk about how they do business. Actually, I am thinking this person wouldn't even be heard or seen...just the responses to questions as a narrator covers the descriptive portions of the interaction.

The guy who normally does NOVA (George Paige/Page) has the perfect voice for the commentary and narration. The individual I'm looking for would get credit but not a active or visible spot in the film.
