Anyone here collect Civil War tokens?

10 posts in this topic

Only person around here that I know actively collects them is goose3. But you probably already knew that.

Personally, I find them fascinating and I seem to be collecting tokens more and more. One of these days...

It's not a CW token, but check out the HT token I picked up in the last Heritage sale...

I bought Fuld's book several years ago but only have 2-3 CWTs. I also picked up a book recently on HT tokens but I don't actually own any. That's a nice one you have there Hoot. I bought three Conder tokens a few years back too and I don't even have a book about them.

I find all three of those types of tokens interesting, but I have no idea how to price them so I am afraid to buy them. I'm fond of any old copper so I could get into these things if I knew more about them.

You've got a few options with this.

For cwt's I would say stuff in the F-XF is about $15 to $25 a piece. That's actually quite a steal rarity wise. Some of the most common cwt's are fewer in number than that of the 1909-S V.D.B. For uncirculated piece expect to pay about $30-$100 depending on the quality. This is without factoring in the rarity, this is for un attributed or type coins.

Your second option would be to find something you really like, and let me know, i'll look it up, give you a description, value, and anything else you need to know.

Your Third is to buy the Fuld books and learn it all like I did. It actually took me only one day to learn all the stuff in the Fuld Patriotic book, three days to read the whole thing, and im only 15. Shouldn't be too hard.
