Once a coin has been improperly cleaned, there is unfortunately little we can do through professional conservation to reverse that. Once a coin's original surfaces have been disturbed, we would not be able to restore them. However, improper cleaning methods often leave residues or don't fully address the problem they had intended to take care of in the first place. Many times we see coins that have been improperly cleaned but still have spots or toning or encrustation remaining. The bottom line is we can conserve a coin that has been improperly cleaned, however the coin will remain improperly cleaned.

We can also encapsulate a coin that has been improperly cleaned in our Details Grade of Genuine Only holder.
