Man! You're really dishing it out against PCGS 893whatthe.gif

Well Hayden,

Do you agree or disagree with my grading? There are some very noticeable mistakes with those Pcgs grades. Click on this link and look at the pictures, read the descriptions and then try to understand what happen when you see the prices paid for those low grade coins! You will need to brush up with this thread to understand where I'm coming from. Start with the 7th post down. link

Leo's on such a wild-hare chase that convincing him that PCGS is like any other grading company (i.e. ANACS or NGC) in terms of grading and attribution accuracy is utterly impossible. We've all said that we've seen as much overgraded and undergraded material (at least proportionately), misattributed, etc., in other holders as PCGS. Leo's just a lighthouse for PCGS junk.

If my last few submissions to PCGS are any indication, they are being rediculously hard on grades for Jeffersons now. I simply find PCGS inconsistent by 1 point in the due course of time. This isn't news. Sometimes they are 2 points off in their grades, just like everyone else. As for the FS designation or the assignment of gem grades to late die state coins, PCGS is no more awry than anybody. They are, perhaps, more visible, and their junk is likely more easily found due to their volume. Their junk also trades at higher prices than other TPG junk. But ultimately, collectors are guilty of playing the slab game, and the worst coins get "stuck" in slabs, never to return. This is especially true for PCGS, NGC, and ANACS graded coins because every one of those trades at a premium for the grade and attribution.

I have the bad habit of cracking what I believe are badly graded coins or sending them in to the TPGs for appearance review. And it's nearly always a wrestling match. It's far easier to crack than send back. 893scratchchin-thumb.gif I've done this to my significant financial detriment at times. I recently cracked two buffalo nickels from NGC slabs that were overgraded. Had I sent them for review, they would have been sent back, unchanged in grade or holder. One was an MS67 1937 and the other was an MS66 1936-S. I sent them (testing the water) to PCGS who graded them MS66 and MS65, respectively. I then cracked them (though they were properly graded) and sent them to NGC and they graded MS66 and MS65, respectively. Alas, that's where they will stay. They are properly graded and I lost a couple hundred bucks. Do I like that? No. Is it true for every TPG? Yes.

To err is human. To grade is human. PCGS's big problem is the LARGE ego factor associated with coins in their holders. I just don't get that. But that's not news either.

To change grading standards at will, bodybag perfectly problem free coins, and play politics on crossovers is PCGS.

et al.

Attitude and intention matters in all of this. These attributes are quite different between services and individuals within each service. It's lousy, but it's the culture.
