Another Coin Storage ?

4 posts in this topic

Hi, I just received a 1969 Nixon inaugural coin or medal or token. Anyway it is in the mint's plastic. Is it better to keep Coins from the mint in their packaging or remove it and put in a safety flip. Sorry for the redundant questions. Thanks in advance.

Some people like coins in their original packaging in order to increase the perception of originality. In some cases, this can add quite a bit of value to a coin (or coins, e.g., proof and Mint sets from the 1950s), and in the case of your medal/token (it's not a coin), the original presentation case may help it keep its value. The problem with original packaging is that it can be PVC plastic or high sulfur content cardboard, etc. That kind of stuff can ruin the token or coin, etc. If that's the case, then it's often best to remove the piece carefully and place it in a better container, but keep the original packaging.

Hope that helps. Hoot.
