there are usually promotions by coin sellers in the coin game of specific coins

 

the current and last one was the promotion with the following run up of ms65 slabbed generic morgans

 

of course the promoters have to start quietly buying as such some months before a run up as it is easy to do in the thinly traded undercaitalized coin market

 

which coin series is going to be promoted within the next 6 months or so

I think with the new Jefferson portraits and commems, commems in general will get a boost., but all aspects of the hobby are alive and well.

What I would like most promoted is consumer and legislative activism against quasi mints promoting third world commemoratives and plated clad quasi coins as genuine issue mint products. So far, alot of these sheisters have gotten a free ride. The ANA and local legislatures need to work together to put these crooks out of business, and this also includes certain corrupt grading services.

As far as specific series go, As David Bowers likes to say, rare coins will always be rare coins and demand will always be there for quality and scarcity.

After 25 years of serious collecting, fads are a thing of the past for me, although its nice to see higher bids when you are upgrading your sets.

Promotional coins have to be those which a dealer can acquire sufficent quantities of to support large scale promotion sales. Based on history from 1989, plus the focus on gold price increases, generic MS65 Saints will be the next big promotion. Some dates are readily available and these coins are appealing to investors because of their beauty and gold content.

In my opinion, I`d have to say the Indian head (buffalo) nickel series. It`s my understanding that one of the reverse designs for the 2005 Jefferson nickels will be another buffalo. As I understand it, the design will be very similiar in detail to the original buffalo reverse only facing in the opposite direction. I think that when these new nickels reach circulation. It will remind people of the originals and put even greater pressure on the series. Of course this is just pure speculation. But, from what I`ve seen since the start of the state quarter program it seems to be a reasonable assumption.
