Silver quarters?

4 posts in this topic

Ok well I had a pocket of change. And I dropped it on my counter. And one of the coins sounded really weird when it fell. So I jingled them around in my hand and it sounded different. But anyway it was a quarter. Its not as shiny as a regular quarter, kinda dull looking. So someone told me that quarters used to be made out of silver, and this one was made in 1961. So anyone have any info on this?

Quarters (and dimes & halves) made 1964 and before are 90% silver. For a coin dated 1961, unless it is in uncirculated condition, it will sell for around its silver value.

FYI, halves made from 1965-1970 were 40% silver.

Silver Melt on a Quarter used to be around $1.00, but prices for Silver have gone up since I used to buy bulk silver so It may be technically more like $1.10 or $1.20.

Your not rich, but it is worth more than face value which is kinda nice to find in change thumbsup2.gif
